Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
May 11, 2019
We had an outstanding turnout at our last Academic Breakfast of the school year! We celebrated students in the top 10% of their class, Presidential, and scholoar athlete awards, to name a few! The cafeteria was packed and pride was beaming! Ky Perone and Haley Stiscek did an amazing job providing background music and the cafeteria provided a wonderful atmosphere and delicious food, as usual! Thanks to all who supported our students throughout the year... with out you, these students may not have reached their potential!
Congratulations to some of the members of the Marian Central Track Team for winning their conference this week! We are all excited to see how far they can go! The week also included several spring sport senior nights and college signings. It's wonderful to see all of our students' successes unfold!
The rest of the week was business as usual as teachers and students worked hard to get ready for their upcoming semester exams. AP students tested this past week, adn will continue through this week. Thanks to the Guidance Department for their tiredless efforts to ensure that the students have the best possible environment in which to test.
Thursday evening's IDEA Final Pitch Night was pretty amazing! Four student companies presented, Alpine Spirit Shop who were selling Marian lanyards and phone cases, Cord Buddies who developed and sold Marian electronics cord protectors, Clot Catcher who developed an app to assist people who take blood thinners, and Fit Plug who developed a website that matches people with their perfect fitness trainer. In the end, there could only be one winner... see below to find out!
Finally, after many hours and many different configurations, we believe we have a solid Master Schedule for the 2019-20 school year! Guidance is currently working on meeting with returning students wh.o may have some scehduling conflicts. Once we have balances out the lunch periods we will be providing you with a copy of the schedule so you can be fully aware of what you will be teaching and during what period.
Looking ahead...
We are in the final strech before we hit senior exam week! Technically the seniors only have 4 more days of school! Honors day will be Friday morning at 9:00 am, so after first period, all seniors are to report to the Aux Gym to get lined up for this wonderful event! Please click here for the special Honors Day bell schedule. After Honors Day, the seniors are free to leave school for the day.
As we prepare for exams, please read the special section on exams below. If there are any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Novy.
Another reminder: the following are due to Ms. Novy by the end of this week...
- All Year Long Plans (YLP) for each course that is taught
- Department Technology Goal Reflections
YLPs can be submitted via email with an attachement or a link, or if departments have collected them together, the department can submit the folder in which all YLPs are in.
Technology Goals are to be submitted either through the Department Head or through Kasey Gallagher after your department had met with her.
Finally, we have several wonderful evenings ahead of us... Tuesday and Wednesday will be the culminating musical performances of Marian's choir and band. Thursday evening will celebrate Fine Arts successes, inductees of the Thespian Honor Society, and there will even been a final Theater2 Showcase performance! These three evenings are sure to be a celebration of what our talented students have accomplished! Please join the celebrations!
Happy Mother's Day to all of our Marian Moms and have a wonderful week!

Semester 2 FInal Exams
Final Exams will be here beore we know it! Here is some important information you will need to know. The parent grade portal will be closed as of Tuesday, May 21 at 8am, the first day of senior exams. Unfortunately we are not able to just close down the seniors, so the portal will remain closed until all grade meetings have been completed. Please make sure that you provide a clear deadline for seniors and underclassmen as to when is the last day you will be accepting late/missing work, but ALL summative work must be completed/made up before the exam dates. This also means making sure that ALL student grades are as up to date as possible prior to the closing of the portal so students and parents are very aware of their grades going into exams!
Please make sure you are fully aware of our Exam Procedures. Know, however, that due to the snow days the following exam schedule superseedes the one cited in this packet. This includes submitting copies of study guides & exams to both the Ms. Novy and Mr. Taylor (for students taking their exams with him).
- Senior SG & exams must be submitted by Tuesday, May 14
- Underclassmen SG & exams must be submitted by Wednesday, May 22
Please sign up for semester 2 grade meetings here.
Reminder... ALL Teachers are required to be in attendance through Friday, May 31, per contract. If you are a teacher of senior classes and are done earlier, you may be asked to assist in either proctoring student exams in the Academic Resource department or in collecting the underclassmen devices.
SENIOR EXAMS:
ALL Teachers: Please review this updated chart to determine which students may need to go to study hall or which students need to go to another teacher to take the exam. **This chart IS final... updated for senior exemptions. If you are indicated with a study hall or one to proctor senior exams, you will be receiving a student list (as well as the actual exam(s) for seniors) this week.
Senior Concerns: Ms. Novy MUST receive a grade update for the student(s) prior to graduation in order to determine if they will actually graduate. Please contact Mrs. Novy immedietly after you have determined whether or not these students have successfully passed you class. This should be done no later than Thursday, May 23 at 4pm.
Senior Exemptions: Remember that if the students do not maintain their qualifying grade they could lose the exemption status. Because of this, it is imperative that you continue to keep your gradebooks as up to date as possible! Thank you.
