Hello Panther Foster Parents,
First, I'd like to thank my foster parents for choosing to become a foster parent. Last year 3,348 children were served in the Bexar County area. By becoming a foster parent you have made sure our students have come into a a loving home. I am here to help you and your foster student any way I can. Back to School Checklist
Two Weeks Before School:
- Start Getting your kids on their school year bedtime.
- Stock up on non-perishable basics like juice/milk boxes, napkins, sandwich bags, and snacks.
One Week Before School:
- Schedule hair cuts, as needed.
- Plan meals for the first week of school.
- Purchase the last of their supplies like pencils, markers, crayons, and paper.
Three Days Before School:
- Shop for groceries for school.
- Make sure your camera is ready for first day photos.
The Night Before:
- Prepare lunches and snacks for first day of school.
- Pack supplies in backpack.
- Lay out clothes for first day of school.
- Set alarm clock.
First Day of School:
- Enjoy it! (don't forget the tissues or the camera.)

Foster Care Resources
Family Tapestry, a division of The Children's Shelter, seeks to promote transformational change to the foster are system by aligning and connecting the community around the shared principles of safety, permanency and well-being for children.
THRU Project bridges the gap between foster care and adulthood for youth in the foster care system.
What services Does THRU Project provide:
Ages 14-18 and 18+:
- Introduce you to an adult Advisor that can provide a listening ear and a support system for you.
- Provide a bus pass to help with transportation.
- Provide a call phone and service to connect you to your Advisor and vital resources.
- Connect you to other resources for housing, employment and life skills.
- Providing housing necessities such as kitchen and bath supplies.
Preparation for Adult Living (PAL)- BCFS
PAL provides services to youth aging out of the foster care system to expand their skills and knowledge, strengthen their self-confidence, create healthy community relationships, and learn self-guidance. PAL provides transition services to foster youth and alumni from ages 15 1/2 to 21 in order to better prepare young adults for their freedom.
