No School Tomorrow: Friday 2/9/2018

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow is a student/teacher holiday. We will have school on Friday 2/23 to make up for time missed due to Tropical Storm Irma.

Dyer's Fun Run Was AWESOME!

Our Dyer Fun Run was a HUGE success! To everyone who supported our school and came out to the Fun Run, THANK YOU! It's not too late to get more pledges and earn more prizes. The folks at Boosterthon are going to leave pledging open until next week, so feel free to use the long weekend to your advantage.

All pledges are due by next Thursday, 2/15. Checks made payable to Dyer Elementary are our preferred method of payment but cash is okay too. Simply enclose the pledge money in the envelopes provided by the Boosterthon team and return to your child's teacher by next Thursday. Thanks again for generously supporting our school!

If you are able to help us count pledges on the morning of Thursday 2/15 or Thursday 2/22, please click here to sign up.

Parents Can Get In On The Fun Too!

There are so many awesome things happening here at Dyer, and there's no reason that the kids should have all the fun! We have several amazing opportunities for parents and family members to get involved, make new friends, and have a great time in the process. Whether it's serving muffins to our moms, counting pledges, helping at the Book Fair or helping find leaders for next year's PTO, there is something for everyone. Please follow the links below to sign up!

Paws for Books Book Fair - February 12th - 23rd:

Do you love to craft or decorate? Is the book store your favorite hang-out on a Saturday afternoon? Maybe you want to get a glimpse of the dads and daughters during the dance? Ms. Langford has volunteer opportunities for everyone on various days at several different times. Don't miss this opportunity to spend time in our magical media center, (snacks and coffee will be provided too, it's better than Barnes & Noble). Click here to sign up for a shift that fits your schedule.

Muffins with Moms - February 15th & 16th:

PTO is looking for a few dads (or moms/grandparents/aunts/uncles) to help set-up/clean-up and serve muffins to our awesome moms from 7:00-8:15. Click here to sign up for a shift on Thursday and/or Friday.

Dyer Fun Run Count Days - February 15th & 22nd:

Are you up for a little coffee, counting and camaraderie! Dyer is looking for a few folks to help count pledge money from our fun run. The folks from Boosterthon will be here too, and guide us every step of the way. If you can help for a few hours on the morning of Thursday 2/15 and/or Thursday 2/22, please click here to sign up.

Bingo Night - Friday, March 16th:

One of our Bears' favorite nights of the year is almost here! Join us for an evening of community fun, pizza and prizes! This is a big event, and we need a few folks to help pull it off. PTO is looking for folks that can help plan prior to the event at a time that works with their schedule, as well as the night of the event. Click here to sign up for a time that works for you.

Dyer PTO 2018-2019 Nominating Committee Members Needed:

We've got some big shoes to fill next year, and we could use 3 - 5 volunteers to help run the 2018-2019 PTO Board of Directors Election. The job of the nominating committee is to promote the upcoming election, explain the requirements for the elected positions, reach out to potential candidates, accept nominations, and manage the actual election process. The nominating committee must be unbiased throughout its work. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please fill out this electronic form by next Friday 2/16, so our PTO can contact you.

Bruster's Blue Ice Day: Wednesday 2/14

Bruster's Blue Ice Day is next Wednesday! Students will be able to purchase a famous "Blue Ice" for $2 during their lunch. A portion of the sale will come back to Dyer.

Book Fair Is Coming! 2/15 - 2/23

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

· Set the example. Let children see you read.

· Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up

with changing tastes and reading skills.

· Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books

to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Sincerely,

Media Specialst

P.S. We are still in need of volunteers to help ensure our Book Fair is fun and successful. Help is needed from February 13 - February 23.

Georgia Parent Survey

Parents,

Please help us improve our school by taking a few minutes to complete an important survey for the State of Georgia.

The Georgia Parent Survey is from the State of Georgia and assists with our College and Career Readiness Climate Star Rating. You may complete the State survey on your computer, smartphone, or tablet or in the Dyer Media Center. We would like ALL parents to complete this State survey, and all responses are anonymously submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Please click here to access the State survey.

We hope you will take a few minutes to complete this important survey to help us improve Dyer Elementary. Thanks for your support!

Bear Reader Program

The Bear Reader Program has begun. There are no special reading logs required. We are asking that the students read at least 20 minutes for five days of the week. The students already have reading logs that they have as part of their homework. Fill out the homework reading log every day. At the end of each month, the teachers will e-mail Mrs. Langford with the names of the students who have read at least 20 minutes for five days of the week. The students who complete this monthly reading goal will earn a brag tag. Brag tags are fun dog tags. The children will be able to collect a new brag tag at the end of each month. Let's see who can collect them all!

Birthday Wishes in Big Lights!

You may have noticed that birthdays can now be displayed on our school marquee. For just $5, you can wish your student a happy birthday during his/her birthday week. All proceeds benefit our "PAWS" initiative. (Summer birthdays will run during the last week of school, and during your child's birthday week.) To register your child, simply log into their MyPaymentsPlus account. Note: requests will be processed next business day.

Yearbook Orders

To order your copy of the 2017-2018 yearbook, simply log on to YearbookOrderCenter.com and enter our school's order number: 10768.
