Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
Dear Mill Creek Families,
As we welcomed some of our students back into the building at the end of September, we asked car rider families to print the placard linked below, write their family name on it in thick, black marker, and display the placard inside your car’s front, passenger side, windshield window. While have have found that, on most days, we do not need to use/view the car placards, we are running into an issue where where they will be extremely helpful. That issue involves days when weather is severely inclement (e.g. torrential rain). If weather is not ideal but also not severely inclement, we will continue with normal car rider pick up practices. However, on days when the weather is severe, we are going to hold the car rider students indoors until a parent arrives. On these days, we ask that you hang your car placard. This will allow the adults stationed outside to radio in the names on placards and quickly and safely send out students.
While we believe this procedure will greatly help our car rider students and families on days with very difficult weather, we continue to ask you to dress your children for the forecasted weather (e.g. rain gear/umbrellas on rainy days).

The placard is also accessible for print on Mill Creek's website under "School Links."
Thank you your assistance!
Have a great weekend, Mill Creek!

Happy Friday, Mill Creek!
As we continuously work to keep our students safe, we will be conducting our fall Intruder on Campus (ALICE) Drill on Tuesday, November 10 from 8:40-9:00 a.m. Due to the current need for social distancing, the drill will involve the following:
- Simulated PA announcement, using elementary-friendly language. The announcement will begin with a clear communication that it is only a drill.
- Teachers will close and lock classroom doors, then conduct a "talk through" of the drill. Discussions will vary among grade levels, but common topics will include locations to move within the classroom, what to do if a student is not in a classroom when an emergency is called, and procedures for evacuating the building (including where to go and "rally" points).
- Administration will check to ensure all occupied classroom/room doors are locked.
- Once classroom doors have been checked and "talk throughs" are complete, an announcement will be made ending the drill.
Teachers of students who are 100% virtual will conduct their "talk through" of the drill at some point during the school day on Tuesday, November 10, so those students are informed in the event any return to in-person school at some point this school year.
It is important to us that your children feel safe at school and know what to do if an emergency situation were to occur, including following adult directions and reporting anything they see that is concerning to them to an adult.
I am sure most if not all families have had discussions at home about how to address emergency situations, so I believe what our students are learning in their own homes and the drills we practice here put them in a position to act accordingly and safely should an emergency situation occur at school.
Thank you for all you do to reinforce safe practices at home. It is nice to know that we are working together as a Mill Creek Community to teach our students/children the importance of safety.
Have a wonderful weekend!
