Third Grade Tidings
Week of September 9-13
A Note From Your Third Grade Teachers
Reflection was the theme of this week. Reflecting on our stamina goals in Daily 5. Reflecting on whether or not our choice of learning spots was successful. Reflecting on our learning goals and how we will work to achieve them. Reflecting on the tragedies of the events of 9/11 and honoring those who were affected.
It is hard to believe we've already completed week 4 of the school year!
Your 3rd Grade Teachers,

Curriculum at a Glance
This Week's Mentor Sentence
"Richard gave me one of his extra-rotten, weasel-eyed, greeny-toothed grins."
It was a lively tale of one-upsmanship and brotherly love. A lot of the scholars could identify with some of the relationships that our main character had with her brother, Richard. They used this week's mentor sentence to create a sentence using detailed adjectives that helped paint a more vivid picture for their readers.
Ask your scholar what adjective they enjoyed using the most.
Math
Science
We're applying our observations and learning towards our eventual development of our own marble skate park. Ask your scientist how they would describe the motion of their marble. We used measurements such as speed and distance in our articulation about motion.

Physical Activity Is Linked To Better Classroom Performance
It’s no secret that exercise is good for your child. Along with other benefits, it can cut their risk for obesity, diabetes and even some types of cancer. But did you know that physical fitness may also help them in school?
Studies show that, compared with their inactive peers, children who get regular exercise:
• Have better hand-eye coordination.
• Are better listeners.
• Are less fidgety in class.
• Have better handwriting.
To give your child lots of opportunities to get their heart pumping:
• Go on regular walks. Pick a time, such as before or after dinner, to take a short walk around your neighborhood. Make this a habit.
• Take the long way. When you are out running errands, skip the elevators and escalators and take the stairs. Choose parking spots that will allow you to walk a bit farther.
• Play games. From catch to tag to hide and seek, there’s no end to the fun your family can have.
• Have contests. When you watch TV together, challenge your child to a competition. During commercial breaks, see who can do the most jumping jacks or pushups.
• Put them in charge. Challenge your child to come up with some creative ways to keep your family moving.
