Library Mission: Book Removal 2015
Thanks to all of our volunteers!
No Easy Task
Relocating a collection of more than 32,000 books is no easy task, but with teamwork, joyful attitudes, donations, and muscle power the work was accomplished in only four days!
Mrs. Cruz, SHS librarian, and Mrs. Pena, SHS library assistant, publish this special S'more to thank all those who assisted!
Donations of Boxes
How many boxes do we need?
Last week an early estimate was 600 boxes would be needed to relocate the collection to the lecture hall. However more than 1,200 boxes were used. Here is a list of vendors and agencies who contributed to this effort. The list is organized by those who contributed the most at the top. Thank you!
Thank you to our local Scholastic Warehouse
A huge thanks goes to Steve Angulo and his team at Scholastic Warehouse located off of Military Drive. His team donated more than 450 boxes!
Mission Home Depot
Our next biggest contributor was Mission Home Depot! They donated more than 200 boxes! We also purchased about 180 boxes from them at a reduced rate. Thanks to Josh and the Home Depot team!
SISD Technology Department
We had 160 boxes donated from the SISD Technology Department. Dell computer boxes held lots of books and were the hardest to move after packed full. LOL
SISD Libraries and Friends
Finally, we received 150 boxes from libraries across the district and school personnel. We thank SA³ for their fundraiser popcorn boxes! Thanks to SISD Food Service for boxes. Thanks to our SHS custodians for rounding up every paper box in all buildings. Thanks to everyone who contributed even one box. Your donation made a difference. Every box counted!
Thank you to our Friends @ the McAllen Public Library
We appreciate Director Kate Horan and her team at McAllen Public Library. They provided us with more than 50 boxes.
Thanks to Mark Dougherty, Johnny Gomez, and Janie Perez
Thanks for tape, delivering boxes, and answering phones. Much appreciated! We'll send an update of the work in various stages when it is complete with photos of crew moving furniture and shelving.
It takes a village to move a library, but one of the best key factors is a highly motivated partner!
One huge thank you goes to library assistant Virginia Pena. Mrs. Pena drove her personal vehicle to Scholastic, Home Depot, and the McAllen Public Library to collect boxes. She organized student volunteers, taped boxes, packed boxes, and moved boxes. She kept everything moving along throughout the entire process!
Thanks to all those who worked! Many hands made this process possible.
Thanks to student volunteers: including library ambassadors, SHS book club members, Mr. Matthew Flores students, softball team, football team, Coach Pamela Saenz, and lab manager Michell Garza.
