Winter Break Edition
Varsity Scholar Bowl Team in the Top 10!
Congratulations to the Varsity Scholar Bowl Team for its Top 10 finish at the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance Fall Championship that featured 34 teams from around the entire state of Missouri. Team members were Eli Bosley, Alex Duckwitz, Nate Kershaw, Ben Kershaw, and Mason West. Eli Bosley earned a place among the Top 10 Individual Scholar Bowl players at the event. Way to go, Eli!
Warrior Archery
Over the weekend of December 10th, our Warrior Archers hosted the first 2 tournaments of the season. In the 4th Annual Warrior Battle (bullseye) Madison Breshears took 5th in HS girls & Marissa Quinn took 9th in HS girls. Severin Stout took 7th in HS boys. Then in the Warrior Hunt (3D) the team qualified for state & in HS girls Morgan LeGrande took 2nd, Madison Breshears took 5th, HS Boys Severin Stout took 10th.
Severin,Madison,Aldyn,Mason T., Marissa,Johnny, Morgan,Logan T.,Gavin,Brayden,Trinity,Lily,Terry C.,Sonja, Lilah& Audrey also qualified to shoot in the upcoming Border Wars in February where they will compete against archers from 9 states.. It was a great day to be a Warrior & a great way to start the season. The archers will be competing in the 6th Annual Anchor Down Battle this saturday at Barry MS.
Feed Northland Kids Spring 2022-2023
Feed Northland Kids is a unique organization focused on addressing weekend nutrition and hunger by providing healthy, kid-friendly foods for school-age children, living in the Northland of Kansas City, MO.
The Feed Northland Kids food kit program requires sign up. To receive a food kit, families MUST sign up by the dates listed below for that month's distribution - NO EXCEPTIONS. ie, December 30th for January 12th distribution. Families must sign up for each month needing assistance - one sign up equals one month of food kits. Families must have a child enrolled in Smithville School District to participate.
- Sign up by December 30th for January 12th distribution
- Sign up by January 27th for February 9th distribution
- Sign up by February 24th for March 9th distribution
- Sign up by March 31 for April 13th distribution
- Sign up by April 28th for May 11th distribution
Families of 4 or less will receive 4 kits. Families of 5 or more will receive 6 kits. Each kit typically contains food for a week which may include two canned soups, two canned vegetables, two canned pastas, two boxes dry mac and cheese, a canned tuna, a canned chicken, a jar of peanut butter, a breakfast cereal, granola bars, a loaf of bread, and a main meal.
Girls Swim comes out strong!
SHS Girls swim had an awesome turnout the weekend of 12/10/22 at the Winnatonka Invite earning a 13th-place finish.
A huge congratulations to both Sophomore, Ellie Hirner, and Junior, Elyse Hart on shaving off nearly 4 seconds on each of their swims, and another huge congratulation to both Sophomore, Bayley Freeman, and Junior, Ainsley Foster, for tackling the 200 Freestyle for the first time and Mia Marchetti and Jordan Vincent for tackling the 100 freestyle for the first time.
Lastly, congratulations to Sophomore, Izzy Sapp, Junior, Elyse Hart, and Seniors, Lily Medley, and Lily Palmer for earning state consideration in their 200 Medley Relay. Another to Sophomore, Izzy Sapp, Junior Abbie Parr, and Seniors Lily Medley and Lily Pammer on earning state consideration for their 400 freestyle relay, and finally to Sophomore, Izzy Sapp for earning state consideration and breaking the school record in the 200 Individual Medley.
