OPPORTUNITIES FOR ASSISTANCE OR TO HELP OTHERS OVER THE HOLIDAYS
Dear LCS families,
I hope the school year is going well. With the holidays quickly approaching, I would like families to be aware of some opportunities for assistance. If your family is experiencing financial hardship please reach out to Mrs.Thurin, School Counselor. Families that qualify can only participate in one of the following.
Lake Country School Caring and Sharing can, in a confidential manner, arrange for holiday gifts to be available for you to pick up here at school.
The Christmas Clearing Council has assisted hundreds of families with holiday gifts through their program. If you are in financial need of holiday gifts, you can fill out an application for assistance at: http://www.christmasclearingcouncil.org/application. The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 15, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.
The holidays are known as the season of giving, reaching out and helping others. If you are not in need of assistance but interested and able to help out another member in our community, please sign up for a gift on the Sign Up Genius link:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C4BADAD2FA3FD0-caring
All gifts should be wrapped with the gift receipt and code (A-1) on the OUTSIDE of the gift. Gifts should be delivered to Heather Thurin, School Counselor, by December 14th. Please contact me with any questions at hurinh@mylakecountryschool.org or 262-367-3606, ext. 132. Thank you to all past and present givers!!!!!
Sincerely,
Heather Thurin
LCS School Counselor

LOST & FOUND
To try and eliminate this ongoing problem, we suggest putting your child's name in everything so staff will be able to return items to those students.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
Winter weather in Wisconsin has the potential for inclement weather that may impact and warrant the need to delay or close Lake Country School.
School closings are considered when there is a wind chill warning with wind chills maintaining a level of 35 degrees below zero or greater for an extended period of time, especially if the wind chill warning includes the times that students are traveling to and from school, or if road conditions due to snowfall or ice are unsafe for travel.
Collective decisions are made with our bus provider, other area Superintendents, law enforcement agencies and national weather service advisories. We look to make these decisions as timely as possible. When Arrowhead High School is closed, all of the K-8 feeder schools are closed as well.
If the decision is made to close schools, families will be notified via a phone call by 6:00 A.M. Please make sure your contact information is up to date by logging into to Skyward Family access and choosing Skylert in the left-hand column. The information will also be posted to our website and shared with local media.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Please know that every effort is made to use up-to-date information to make decisions. We appreciate your continued support.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
Looks like the cold weather is finally here! Just a reminder to dress kids for the weather. Hats, mittens, boots, snow pants if necessary. Because of the wet weather it is also a good idea to have an extra pair of socks or even pants in the younger kids backpacks. We have kids come to the office looking for dry clothes after coming in from the playground but we only have so much to offer in the Health Room.
REMINDER: Hat season is Lice season! Stress the importance of not sharing hats as this is a sure way to spread lice if it is present. We do have some extra hats in the health room if a student forgets one.
2023-24 ENROLLMENT FOR IN-DISTRICT 4 & 5 YEAR-OLDS
We are searching for ALL three and four year old future students in the Lake Country District. If you have, or are aware of a three or four year old in the district who will be 4 or 5 years old by September 1st, 2023, please have the parents contact Lisa Acton at actonl@mylakecountryschool.org or call (262) 367-3606 ext. 115. If you have children attending Lake Country School already, please don't assume we know about all younger siblings. We want to make sure we contact every eligible child before our Open House in February/March!
HOMEWORK HELP FOR GRADES 3 - 8
We will again be offering our Homework Help for students in grades 3 thru 8. LCS staff will be available after school most Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for a study hall and academic support at no charge. Your child may work on specific academic activities determined by the teacher, have time for extra homework help, or read.
Here are the details of the program. We will begin Monday, November 7, 2022.
After School Study and Support will be available most Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. See below for set dates prior to winter break.
It will run after school from 3:15-4:15 p.m.
Your child will meet in the LCS library and sign in
Your child can bring a snack and eat it outside of the library PRIOR to entering the library to work on homework.
Your child must be picked up by 4:15 p.m.
Homework Help is held in the library from 3:15- 4:15 on most Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Students can come on one, two or three days in the week.
There is no commitment required. All students need to do is come to the library and sign in on the day they want to attend.
Parents do not need to pre-register their child. They just need to make sure their child is picked up at 4:15 on the day they attend.
It is an open study hall with teacher support available to help students with work they are struggling with or clarifying directions etc. It is recommended that
students begin with the homework that will be the most difficult for them to complete independently, so the teachers can provide assistance when they need it.
If students finish work prior to 4:15, they can read quietly in the library until pick up.
Homework Help will be held on the following days:
November 7,9,10,14,17,21,28 and 30
December 1,5,7,8,12,14,15 and 19
More dates to follow.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Heather Thurin at thurinh@mylakecountryschool.org or 367-3606 extension 132.
INCOMING FRESHMAN
Arrowhead High School asked our district to send out a letter to all families about high school enrollment procedures for next school year at AHS. The process at AHS opens on November 4. If you missed the email, CLICK HERE for a copy of the letter.
The letter is a bit confusing to open enrolled families so I am hoping to clarify a few things for you.
- Per the letter, you should move forward with the online enrollment process which opens on November 4 even though you have not completed open enrollment paperwork to Arrowhead. Please note there is a difference in online enrollment and open enrollment.
- In February, the open enrollment application period begins through the WI DPI for the 2023-2024 school year. In February, you will complete open enrollment paperwork if you reside outside of Arrowhead High School District and you want your child to attend Arrowhead.
- Some Lake Country School open enrolled families will not need to fill out open enrollment paperwork through the WI DPI because they reside in the Arrowhead High School District. Lake Country School District is separate from the Arrowhead High School District. The easiest way to determine which school district you reside in, is to look up your tax record by address on this County website: https://tax.waukeshacounty.gov/ - check the line items for ARROWHEAD U H S 2450
- If you have any question about open enrollment at Arrowhead, you will need to contact Kate McGraw at 262-369-3611 ext. 4110, mcgraw@arrowheadschools.org
