Returning Student Survey

It is hard to believe that we have less than four weeks left in the 2015-2016 school year! Plans are already underway for the 2016 - 2017 school year. One significant component of our planning involves projected student enrollment, and we need your help! Please use the following link to communicate your family's plans for the 2016 - 2017 school year. A survey will need to be completed for each current GES student in your family. Please complete by Friday, May 13th. Thank you for your help in our planning for next year!

Additionally, GES students will be bringing a letter home today from Principal Hilcher regarding class placement and student information. Decisions regarding class placement are carefully considered using multiple pieces of student information. The parent perspective is one important component. Please feel free to provide information regarding your student using the form sent home today. All forms are due Monday, May 16th by 3:15. Emails will not be accepted and late forms will not be considered. Thank you so much for your help.

GCISD Bond 2016

Hopefully you heard the news that the GCISD Bond passed on Saturday with a total of 7,525 ballots cast in early voting and on Election Day. As you know, GCISD facilities will receive safety and security upgrades amongst more than 1,300 projects selected by the Facilities & Innovation Readiness Team(FIRST) group. It is proposed that GES will gain many updates, upgrades and six additional classrooms amongst other proposed projects. Thank you for voting, for sharing your voting pictures on social media and for encouraging your friends to get out and vote!

Talent Show

Our GES Talent Show will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 6:30pm following a brief PTA meeting. Talent Show applications and information went home with students last Friday. Our Talent Show is open to all GES 3rd-5th graders. Please submit a video audition of your complete performance in full dress to jesdawson@gmail.com. Performances may not be longer than 3 minutes. Applications and audition videos should be submitted no later than Friday, May 13th. Please see application for other specifications and guidelines for acts and music. Dress rehearsal will be held the same afternoon as the Talent Show so participants should plan to be at GES from 4:00-8:00pm on 5/19. We can't wait to see our talented Stars perform!

Field Day

GES Field Day is Thursday, May 26th. T-shirt order forms will be sent home today. ***Please fill out an order form for each child. This will help the distribution part go much smoother. If you choose to write a check, please make it out to GES PTA and attach to the oldest child's order form. Please note check number on younger siblings order form.
GES has the privilege to swim at the Pleasant Glade Pool on Field Day. Each grade has a swim time built into their field day schedule. Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd Grade use the shallow pool. 3rd, 4th and 5th use the bigger lap pool. Lifeguards will be on duty at both pools. ***Swim OPT - OUT form will also be sent home today. Only fill out this form if you DO NOT want your child to swim on Field Day.
Additionally, there will be a Field Day Volunteer Sign Up Genius coming out soon. These spots fill up quickly, so be sure to sign up when you get the link. Thanks for supporting our special day!

Lunch Charges

No charging will be allowed starting May 9th. Students must have a positive balance in order to purchase items in the school cafeteria. Any student without a positive balance will receive an alternative meal at lunch. Please visit myschoolbucks.com to monitor account balances and set up low-balance email alerts. We appreciate your prompt attention in maintaining a positive meal balance. Additional information may also be found on the districts website www.gcisd-k12.org and Child Nutrition Facebook page.

Information From Mrs. Horn

Snack Donations Needed

For some of our families, providing a nutritious snack each day to assist their GES star’s performance throughout the day does not happen consistently because of food insecurities. If you are able, please donate individually packaged Goldfish or pretzels in order to help us provide that snack for students that arrive at school without it because of the insecurities. This would not pertain to students that simply forgot a snack that day. If your Star forgets his/her snack often, sending multiple days worth of snacks might help. For questions, please feel free to contact Angela Horn at angela.horn@gcisd.net or 817-251-5740. Thank you for your continued generosity and thoughtfulness.
