Note from the Principal
There is a great deal of information in the newsletter this week so please take time to read until the end.
Do you have a future Gator for the 2021-22 school year in your house? Then it is time to enroll for kindergarten! The Kindergarten Open House is April 13th and we request you enroll your child prior to coming that evening. See below for more details. Please help us prepare for staffing for next year by making sure your neighbors who have incoming students K-4 enroll their children as soon as possible. We thank you in advance for your assistance.
Please know that after Spring Break we will be having a Virtual Book Fair. Due to the unique circumstances over the past year of virtual learning, we have many books that were not returned to the library and we will use the Book Fair profits to replenish and restock our collection. We appreciate your support of the library and your child's reading habits!
We are almost finished with kindergarten and second grade CogAT testing, 3rd grade IREAD testing and K-4 NWEA testing. It has been a busy month. Thank you for your efforts at home in helping us get through the assessments requirements!
Thank you again for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend.

Honor and Excellence Nominations for Support Staff
Honor and Excellence are two of the terms that appear on the Hamilton Southeastern Crest. One might attribute these qualities to our students, and rightly so, but the same terms can also describe our staff. We honor representatives of our outstanding teachers at the end of each year through the Teacher of the Year program. We would also like to recognize representatives from our SUPPORT STAFF who demonstrate excellence in their work, particularly in a school year like no other!
We are looking for support staff employees who go beyond the normal expectations of their job description resulting in outstanding support of Hamilton Southeastern students and the Hamilton Southeastern Community.
Nominees must be Hamilton Southeastern employees or contracted employees working in our buildings. They could be from any support staff category, including: custodial services, transportation, food service, technology, grounds, secretarial, instructional assistants, maintenance, accounting, treasurers, school resource officers, nurses, therapists, probation officers, etc. Qualifications to be nominated would include anything beyond the normal expectations of the person’s job. It could be a “one-time” act or a series of acts.
Nominations may be received from any person from the Hamilton Southeastern Community, including: professional staff, support staff, parents, students, community members, etc.
Feel free to nominate past recipients of the award. Past award winners are eligible to be chosen again.
If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please complete the form on or before March 23. If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Moore at smoore@hse.k12.in.us. Be sure to get your nomination in early - those received after March 23 will not be considered.
Thanks for your help in honoring the excellent work of our support staff!

Traveling Abroad? Guidelines for a Safe Return to School
If you plan to travel outside the United States, the CDC offers recommendations for a safe return to the U.S. and school:
- Get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel.
- Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
- If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected. (10 days isolation from start of symptoms or test date, whichever occurs first)
- If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.

School Dismissal Changes
Thank you for your continued support of our school dismissal process. We are going to make a slight change in School Dismissal Manager.
Beginning Monday, March 15 the default dismissal setting for each student will be locked. Daily changes should continue to be made using the Add Exception feature. Changes to default dismissal instructions (that which your child does most days) will need to be made through the office. You will still be able to make weekly default changes.
For example:
If your child rides the bus home most days but is changing to car rider most days you will need to call the office.
If your child rides the bus most days but needs to be a car rider one day this week, you will add an exception for that one day.
If your child rides the bus most days but needs to be a car rider every Tuesday, you will set a weekly default.
Please give us a call at 317-915-4260 if you have any questions.
