Please join us for this special event honoring Mrs. Janet Sikma, former, beloved orchestra teacher and mariachi band director.

- Current and past mariachi students
- 8th-grade orchestra students
- Leman Middle School ballet folklorico students and faculty
There will also be speeches and testimonies dedicated to Janet and her impact on the West Chicago Community.

Accepting Nominations for the 1st Trimester
It is time for the first #D33Pride Awards of the year! Each trimester, there is an opportunity to nominate staff, students, parents, volunteers, and/or community organizations that have "gone above and beyond" to support and enhance the work of promoting excellence in education.

One winner from each category will be chosen and recognized at a board meeting. Nominations are due Friday, November 10, 2023

OCTOBER IS CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and we are providing several tips to make sure users can protect themselves from being a victim of cybercrime.
- Identifying “bad” websites. These sites are known as rogue URLs and they are meant to redirect you to another site that can steal your information.
- Protecting Your Mobile Device. Most people walk around with a portable computer or mobile phone. These devices are becoming popular targets for hackers and these are tips to protect your phone.
- Keeping Passwords Safe and Protecting Personal Information. Tips to help protect your identity using social media and making strong passwords to keep you safe.
- 20 Ways to Protect Yourself From Anywhere. Helpful tips to protect yourself at home or anywhere.

Executive Function Skill-Building to Solve Behavior Challenges
Learn strategies to increase success and provide interventions to increase independence and communication. Learn to identify learning obstacles and discern when skill improvements or additional positive reinforcements are needed.
Note: An extended 30-minute workshop for caregivers of neurodiverse children will follow each of these one-hour presentations.

THE POWER OF MINDFULNESS TO INCREASE CALM AND JOY IN YOUNG CHILDREN
Participants will learn how the practice of mindfulness can reduce emotional reactivity and help children and adults manage stress, enhance self-compassion and make healthy life choices.
