Join us at Campus Center every Friday (and the days leading up) of the competition to learn more about your impact on SMCM's carbon footprint, and to pledge your commitment to saving energy!

Make recycled art and see other art like yours!

Submissions due by April 1st. Showings include an event in Leonardtown, and on May 2nd at the Campus Farm's Farmival! Look for more details this month!

Sustainability Tours

Join the Sustainability Office, Facilities and Planning, and Historic St. Mary's on a walking sustainability tour of the campus and surrounding areas. There will be two tours on April 2nd:

- Departing at 8AM, Meet at Schaefer 111

- Departing at 10AM, Meet at Schaefer 111


Tours are approximately 1.5 hours long. Please dress considering the weather!

The Yoga of Plants: A Plant Walk and Propagation Workshop

Monday, April 13th, 4pm

Meet in front of WC

Join the Sustainability Office for a plant walk and propagation workshop led by Eric Lewis of the Harvest Collective in which we will explore permaculture, wild edible and medicinal plants, and fungi through the lens of yoga philosophy. Everything will be discussed in accessible terms with more advanced info interspersed (botanical names, phytochemicals, propagation techniques etc.), so everyone from beginners to full-fledged plant geeks are welcomed to attend.

Donations are appreciated, but not required.

Earth Day 2015

Wednesday, April 22nd, 11am

Nationwide

Earth Day was created in 1970, to serve as a day of celebration and awareness of the Earth, peace, and environmental initiatives that focus on conserving and preserving Earth's functions. Join us on the Campus Center patio on the 22nd to learn more, and to celebrate our communal green and blue habitat!


- We'll be collecting clothing and clean plastic bottles, so bring them to us if you have them!

- Chancellor's Point Club is also having a Service Day, read below for more details!

Club and Department Updates

Mike Branch: Nature Writer and Humorist

Mark Twain Lecture Series, ENST Department, and Voices Reading come together to present: Mike Branch!


April 2nd, 8PM, DPC


- A Professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he teaches American literature, writing, and film.


- A co-founder of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) and co-editor of the University of Virginia Press book series Under the Sign of Nature.


- Has published five books and more than 200 essays, articles, and reviews, and his essays have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes and recognized as “Notable Essays” in The Best American Essays, The Best American Science and Nature Writing, and The Best American Nonrequired Reading.


- Come learn more and hear a reading from our esteemed guest!


This event is free and open to the public.


A reception and book signing will follow the reading.
