*COVID-19 Reporting*

SIU Carbondale encourages the reporting of confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19 among students, faculty and staff. The university works closely with the Jackson County Health Department, which is responsible for tracing cases, notifying individuals of possible exposure, and directing isolation and quarantine of ill or exposed individuals.

The university has an obligation to protect the privacy of individuals who have been diagnosed or exposed, including those who are part of the contact tracing process. Please remember to honor this commitment to privacy for those who contract the virus.

Individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19 will be notified directly through the contact tracing process. Students, faculty and staff are required to assist with the process when asked and to follow the instructions of health officials if they are asked to isolate or quarantine.

Tri Sigma Announces Character Essay Contest

WOODSTOCK, VA—In recognition and support of National CHARACTER COUNTS! Week Oct.18-23, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority is sponsoring the annual Character Essay Contest. The collegiate division is open to collegiate members affiliated with any national sorority. The essay theme for 2020 is: Maya Angelou once said, "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” Describe a defeat you have faced that has shaped you into a better version of yourself. The essay contest will close Oct. 9, 2020, at midnight EDT.

Three scholarships will be awarded to the 1st ($1,000), 2nd ($500), and 3rd ($250) place winners. The winning essays will be announced and published on the Tri Sigma website during National CHARACTER COUNTS! Week.

Celebrating women of character is part of the mission of Tri Sigma and this contest arises from our commitment to sharing our character education initiative in and outside of our organization. We look forward to recognizing and celebrating collegiate sorority women who demonstrate strong character through their words and actions.

For any questions, please contact Caitlyn Westfall, assistant director of education and training, at cwestfall@trisigma.org.
