Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
I hope you are all able to enjoy the upcoming three day weekend as we head into the final stretch.
Next Friday, our students have earned the opportunity to use their electronics at lunch. They are welcome to bring phones, tablets, or gaming devices if they choose and can use them for the recess portion of the lunch period. Great job earning those PARK tickets!
If you are an 8th grade parent, we will be sending invitations to families of students being recognized during our recognition assembly. We do not have a traditional graduation (nor do other BSD middle schools) but will recognize some students for attendance, community service, and academic achievement. A notification will be sent home the first week of June if your student is being recognized. The assembly will take place at 9:45 on Friday, June 14th.
Make it a great week!
Jared Freeman
Principal

Mascot Blueprint
Creating a 3D Print
2D to 3D Learning Process
Design Tech Students Design and Create Team Mascots
In design class with Mr. Gent and Mrs. McCartney, students looked at how communities adapt symbols to market their identity. Their learning activity was to create a mascot with memorable traits and a clear connection to a city and community. Students were tasked with thinking about memorable characteristics by researching existing mascots. They looked at local symbolism that could then communicate a sense of identity.
Once they selected their city and sport, students needed to think about how to develop their own mascot through color, features and traits that communicate their sense of connection to that sport and city. They created three products: an annotated colored sketch, a design in TinkerCAD and a final 3D-printed design. The design in TinkerCAD was probably the most challenging for students- How to take a 2D picture and turn it into a 3D object. As a culminating activity, students participated in a class gallery walk to see each others’ designs and provide feedback about the process.

Calling all future Beaverton High School Students!
You are invited to Beaverton High School’s Spring Fest 2019! Spring Fest is a new event at BHS. It showcases Beaverton’s clubs and sports. This is a great chance for future Beavers and their families to connect with BHS. There will also be delicious food from great vendors. We are inviting all incoming and future BHS students and their families to come have some fun and learn about our school.
Spring Fest is Friday, May 31st from 6:00-8:00 pm. The event includes the traditional Powderpuff games. The final game of Powderpuff begins at 6:30 pm. Powderpuff is a BHS tradition where teams of women play football. Entrance into the event is free. You are encouraged to bring money to support the vendors and play the carnival games run by and for the profit of BHS clubs. We can’t wait to see you there!
