Easley Summer Update
What we know about Opening school
July 12, 2020
A Note from the principal
Good evening Easley families,
I hope this message finds you happy and healthy. I'm reaching out this evening to provide an update on the opening of school. You’ve likely received the message informing you the District is recommending year-round schools move to the traditional calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. While I hate to veer off our year round calendar, I’m thankful that it gives us a couple additional weeks to prepare for the opening.
I know everyone has many questions and, believe me when I say, I wish I had all the answers! I know many of you are trying to make the right decision for your family and there is a great deal of uncertainty, making those decisions very difficult. I’ve been hesitant to put out too many specific details because things are ever changing, often daily and sometimes by the hour; however, I understand the need and desire for parents to make informed decisions so I am happy to share what we know right now. It’s important for you to understand that we are still sorting through the logistics of the physical space and daily routines, systems and structures and what’s true today may not be true tomorrow, much less in a couple of weeks. Furthermore, all of our Plan B plans could change should the Governor or DPS School Board decide to move to Plan C, which would be remote learning for all schools.
Below is a link to Frequently Asked Questions and tentative answers. I feel the need to reiterate this information is what I know right here and now. I will continue to provide you with updates and new information as it becomes available. Please remember that we are in this together and we all want what is best for our students and children. I would love nothing more than for us to resume our normal way of life at Easley where we are all learning together under one roof as a united community; unfortunately we know that will not be the case, at least for the start of the school year. Please continue to reach out with your questions and concerns and I will answer them to the bet of my ability. Please also give your little Eagle a squeeze from me and let them know they are missed by their Easley family.
Kindergarten and New Student Registration
The Kindergarten and New Student Registration online platform will be opening this week. You will be able to access the platform on the DPS website and Easley Facebook page. If you registered at Easley prior to the school closure your information has already been entered and you do not have to register online. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Data Manager, Lisa Varner, at Elizabeth.Varner@dpsnc.net.
