ASSESSMENTS ~ Save the Date! As you're planning your spring getaways, be sure to keep March 30 to April 10, 2020 clear for state testing. Watch for more details about testing, test sites, and registering for testing in the MMU after Winter Break.
AVID ~ Developing note-taking skills is fundamental for scholars’ academic success at any grade level. While there is no right or wrong way to take notes, there are strategies scholars can use to keep their notes organized and focused:
Tip #1 -Be prepared. Before you meet with your teacher or EF, scholars should have their note taking supplies at the ready to avoid wasting time or forgetting to take notes in the first place.
Tip #2- Focus on the Essential Question (EQ). As the lesson’s EQ is presented write it down as a point of reference throughout the lesson. Being mindful of the EQ will help scholars stay focused on the concepts most relevant to the lesson’s objective.
Tip #3- Stay organized. There are a variety of note taking templates scholars can use when taking notes. Two examples are Cornell notes and Two Column notes, become familiar with these options and find the one that works best for you.
Tip #4- Use abbreviations, symbols, and examples. These strategies will help paraphrase the concepts you are reviewing and make the information meaningful to you.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT ~ The Elementary (TK-5) Cooking Club is off to a great start this year! This club met on the 3rd Thursday of November and made some delicious recipes highlighting fresh cranberries for the Thanksgiving holiday. They met online, each of the scholars in their own kitchen, and learned the value of "mise en place" (to have everything in its place) before they began cooking! They stirred, mixed, and measured, and the recipes turned out smelling and tasting delicious! During the month they also shared recipes and brags about their culinary creations in their group on Parent Square! So many recipes, so little time! In December, they will meet again on Thursday, December 19 at 11am to cook together again-- they will focus on Christmas truffles-- some to keep and some to share! Come join for a culinary Christmas adventure! To learn more about this club or any of our other Scholar Clubs, please visit the “Parents & Scholars” section of our CCS website.
