Good Evening Butler Bear Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed Spring Break 2024. We are in the final weeks of the school year and we will finish strong. Just before Spring Break, our school counselors hosted an amazing Career Day for all students. Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade had Careers On Wheels. Students had the opportunity to learn about car sales from Savannah Toyota, the Mobile Barber Shop, City of Savannah Maintenance Crew, and Savannah Police Department. 3rd-5th Grade students had the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship with Sweet Treats by Nikki--she even brought some sweet treats to share with students, Angel and Amaya Williams, Realtor with Keller Williams, Longshoreman careers with ILA#1414, Building Construction, Dry Cleaning, and Baking with Mr. Shannon Holman-Entrepreneur, and Department of Juvenile Justice talked to students about they work with students to see success in their futures.

The PTA Leadership and School Administration have met to plan events and activities that focus on Parental Engagement, School Culture, and Parent Advocacy. Please be sure to participate in the meetings.

GMAS for Grades 3-5 is April 30th through May 9th
We will host a parent workshop at the beginning of March on the GMAS assessment system. We are also hosting Saturday School now for GMAS Camp(grades 3-5), Credit Recovery(Grades K-5), and Reading Support for K-5 students. Please email Ms. Dortch, the Assistant Principal, if you are interested in your child attending, you can email her at Schona.Dortch@sccpss.com.
Grades 3-5 GMAS Assessment Informational Materials
Below are the PDF copies of the End of Grade Assessment Informational Materials from the Georgia Department of Education to help understand the GMAS assessment and how students are assessed as well as what they are assessed on in ELA, Reading, Math, and Science. Science is only assessed in Grade 5.
We are still working on our ATTENDANCE incentive. Our current winning homeroom is Ms. Moore Kindergarten Class. We began a new incentive this week!

Parents, I have downloaded the app on my phone, and registered all in about 5 minutes. The district code is 29222 and your school code is 29222. If you have additional questions, please reach out to SCCPSS Transportation at 912-395-5591.
Transportation Updates
Bell Times
Parents, please know that staff is not on duty to receive students until 8:50 AM. No students should be dropped off prior to this time, as students are not supervised. If you need to earlier drop off times, please contact the Habersham YMCA about the Pryme Tyme before and afterschool care program that is provided here at Butler.

8:50 AM-students enter school
8:50 AM-9:10 AM breakfast is available
9:15 AM Instructional Day begins/Tardy Bell
4:00 PM Dismissal Time
Late pick up for car riders is 4:25 PM. Please report to the front office to pick up your child with a photo ID or bring in your assigned car tag for student release.
The district's approved bell schedule is attached for your review.
Tardies/Early Check Outs/Late Pick Ups
Parents will need to report the front office to sign students in at after 9:15 AM.
Parents will also need to come to the front office to sign students out at Late Car Pick Up at 4:25 PM.
Early Student Check Out ends at 3:00 PM.
Please note, that not wanting to wait in the car rider line is not an excuse to come to the office after 3:00 PM to attempt to check your child out, and such check outs will recorded.
Starting August 14th:
- 3 or more unexcused tardies will result in a referral to the School Social Worker.
- 3 or more unexcused check-outs will result in a referral to the School Social Worker.
- 3 or more unexcused absences will result in a referral to the School Social Worker.
- 3 or more unexcused early check outs will result in a referral to the School Social Worker.
If your child has a documented need to be late, absent, or checked out early, please provide the documentation to our School Information Specialist.
Please also be reminded that per SCCPSS Board Policy, student promotion and retention can be impacted by attendance. The policy and policy regulation is available for your reading and review below.
Administrative Placements can also be impacted by student attendance issues.
LUNCH STATUS UPDATE LETTERS HAVE BEEN SENT OUT VIA EMAIL
LUNCH STATUS UPDATE letters have been emailed out to families, please check you emails for updates on lunch status for your child. Lunch status expires in September, so please be sure to complete your application online or call the front office to request a copy be sent home to you to complete.
Breakfast is still FREE for all students. If you had the Reduced Lunch status last school year(22-23) you are FREE Lunch this year, but you must complete the application. However we still need everyone to fill out the Lunch Application form to verify your status.
