Virtual Learning Academy Newsletter
December 2020
Dear Families,
With the holiday break approaching, I want to extend a special thank you to our VLA families for your dedication and devotion to the VLA program. As this first half of the school year closes, I continue to be thankful and appreciative for the many parents working hard as their child's learning guide and our hardworking and dedicated staff who strive each day to make learning meaningful and accessible during their daily zoom lessons. This school year has been one of the most challenging years for many of us both professionally and personally. I have included some resources below that may be helpful.
Best wishes to you all for a safe and happy holiday!

VLA Pacing and Flexibility
The Virtual Learning Academy allows students to work on assignments when they can throughout the week and weekend. Student attendance and accountability is based on work completed. This differs from GUSD's Distance Learning program where daily attendance is mandatory and is recorded by teachers on a daily basis.
Teachers are always available to answer questions and offer support. I am also here for you. Our goal is to have flexibility while ensuring your child is accessing core curriculum components.
Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee (SPAC)
If you are interested in serving as our VLA SPAC representative, please email me directly by Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 by 4pm. SPAC Meetings are held virtually on Mondays @ 6:30pm. The upcoming dates are listed below:
Monday, January 11th
Monday, February 8th
Monday, March 8th
Monday, April 12th
Monday, May 10th
If there are multiple parents interested, we will have a lottery system where a random selection process will be administered to determine VLA's parent representative.
