Sharing Second Grade
A Peek at Our Week
March 26 - 30, 2018
MATH:
2.2 - Students will continue the geometry unit this week. They will partition circles and rectangles into two, three, and four equal shares, and describe the shares using words; halves, thirds, thirds. They will describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths and learn to identify one part of the whole as a fraction; 1/2, 1//3, 1/4. As always, continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home!
3.1 - Students worked more on the relationship between multiplication and division this week because there were quite a few low assessment scores and I didn't want to move on until the foundation was sturdy. We didn't make it to the properties of multiplication this week, we're going to start that on Monday. Please study those multiplication facts!
3.2 - This week students will review all skills in unit 5 and complete the cumulative post assessment. Keep practicing addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts!
READING: This week students are continuing their work in a non-fiction book club. They will use the main idea and key details in a book to create a teaching web. They will compare same topic books within their book club to discover what information is similar across the texts, and what facts are unique to each book.
WRITING:
Students are recalling the knowledge they have learned from reading about specific topics in their book clubs during reading. They will organize the information into a teaching web and use the web as a guide to write a teaching book about their book club topic. Students will add additional facts as they compare and contrast information across the books within their club.
SCIENCE:
This week we will wrap up our science unit on life cycles. Students will work to create and publish a life cycle comic strip. In this project they will use scientific vocabulary and diagrams to describe the life cycle of an insect or animal.
