Global Connections with Video Conferencing (K-12)

Schools today need to connect with the global community. This session is designed to show teachers how to connect and enrich their curriculum by creating connections with experts in their topic of study.

Using Technology to Connect to Students outside of the Classroom (6-12)

When students miss class, teachers struggle to find ways to get students information they need to keep up with the class. This session is designed to give teachers tools/ideas how to make those connections outside of the classroom.

Discovery Education & Video Use in the Classroom (K-12)

Discover a wealth of video content and educational tools available on the streaming service Discovery Education. Access to thousands of videos that have been sorted by subject matter and grade as well as tools such as the Board Builder, which allows students to create interactive digital posters, and Quiz Builder, which helps you create interactive quizzes within videos.

Flipping Your Writing Workshop Book Study (3-8)

Participants will read and discuss the book: Flip Your Writing Workshop: A Blended Learning Approach. Reading will be assigned and completed independently. We will use mindmup for collaborative mind mapping discussion of key points from the text and extend the text for classroom application. Come prepared to discuss and share ideas! All three sessions are required.

Digital Reading Strategies (2-12)

What research tells us about skills needed to be successful digital readers and how best assist students to grow in digital reading skills

Creating Videos for Classroom Use (2-12)

Participants will examine the research behind using teacher created instructional videos and screencasts. After outlining best practices for utilizing teacher created video, participants will evaluate tools such as Screencastify, and YouTube Video Creator/Editor. Participants should come with ideas of how teacher created video would enhance their current curriculum. Participants will be expected to complete and edit a video mini-lesson by the end of the session.

Care and Feeding of Classroom Libraries for 5th & 6th Grade Teachers

Resources to identify titles to add to a 5th or 6th grade classroom, promoting titles that languish on the shelf, tips on maintaining the collection, when to "weed" and how to respond to parents or students uncomfortable with a selection. We will provide resources as well as use participants' suggestions to enhance the classroom collection.

Inquiry and Research Resources for Middle School Teachers in all subject areas: NoodleTools (new version) and Databases

When students "wonder," where can they find the quickest, most reliable answers? When students cite their sources and record their findings what are the new features in NoodleTools to enhance their research process? NoodleTools and Library Database use will be modeled with techniques to incorporate in lessons with students. Easy reference to database content, search techniques, reading levels, citation options, text to speech and other features will be provided.


MONDAY, AUGUST 1 @ 8:30AM - 11:30AM

Teaching on the Block (6-12)

Techniques and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness on the block schedule. This is a two session workshop.

Session 1: Techniques and tools that teachers can use to effectively plan for and utilize the longer class period.

Session 2: Time to work on converting existing lessons and plans for the block.

Reading Apprenticeship Cohort 10 (K-12)

A framework for improving students' ability to read, to write, and to think critically across a range of disciplines to improve academic literacy. This is a six session workshop and participants must sign-up for all of them. The four sessions in August are for Trade Time or Extended Contract, and the additional two sessions are during the school year and will require a sub.
