Shepherd Hill Regional High School
Newsletter ~ December 2021
The last month of the year has arrived. What a time the past 10 months have been for all of us in the Shepherd Hill community and beyond. Best quote of 2020-2021 is “this is not the year to get everything you want. This has been the year to appreciate everything you have.”
This year has provided a very different lens in education and beyond. We’ve had to refocus on how we go about our daily lives, and how we keep our focus on our relationships with our families and friends. No matter what holiday(s) we recognize and celebrate, I hope you are able to carve hours out of your personal schedules to relive and/or create fond memories with people we love and are grateful to have in our life. I hope we can put aside the urge to compete with our daily responsibilities so we are able to experience whatever it is that touches our heart. Moreover, I hope time to ourselves and time with others we care about helps to obscure the things we find fault in as we go about our lives at a frenetic pace.
I have several holiday wishes for our Shepherd Hill Community:
Have the willpower to put down your cell phone and stay away from your device—a little digital cleanse can go a long way,
Pause long enough to quiet the noise around you, to sit and enjoy the moment and hopefully smile, and
Spend more time with family and friends. (Socially distanced of course).
Here at Shepherd Hill Regional High School it is also a time to think of those who are less fortunate.
Our National Honor Society has concluded its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Turkeys, canned goods and money to purchase other essentials for Thanksgiving dinner were collected from students and faculty to create baskets for local families in need.
Finally please keep in mind all of the local small businesses within our community and neighboring communities that have been hit hard this past year. They have helped and assisted our community for many years with sponsorships, sporting clubs, and our other organizations. They now need us to answer the call and help them by shopping at our small businesses across our area.
From my house to yours, near and far, to all my Shepherd Hill family and friends, I wish you a happy peaceful holiday season with warmth in your home and love in your heart.
NHS Toy Drive
The National Honor Society is collecting new, unwrapped toys and donations until Monday, December 20 to give gifts to children in our community and the surrounding communities who may otherwise not receive any this holiday season. Donations can be brought to the main office at Shepherd Hill. Please consider donating.
For more information please contact Mr. Stefan at cstefan@dcrsd.org.
The Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is grateful for an amazing group of students!
In November, we had a blast skating the night away at Roller Kingdom in Hudson where we joined other GSAs from high schools across Massachusetts including Assabet, Maynard, Clinton, Algonquin, Marlboro and Gardner. Our ability to travel to events like these would not be possible without the District’s new passenger van. We thank those responsible for making the van possible!
The GSA meets every Wednesday after school. The Wayside Youth and Family Support Network attended one of our recent meetings to speak with us about their weekly programs, Pride and Power and Q'nnections. Then we played card games.
In December, we will be introduced to ten new LGBTQ+ books being added to the school library that were made available through the GLSEN Rainbow Library.
Wishing you HAPPINESS and RAINBOWS this HOLIDAY SEASON!
