What is Malaria?
Malaria is a common infection in hot, tropical areas but can also occur (rarely) in temperature climates. It is caused by a parasite that is carried by mosquitoes.
Where is it most at risk?
It is most at risk in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America, and also pats of Europe are affected by malaria.
How to prevent it
It can be prevented by mosquito-control programs aimed at killing mosquitoes that carry it. Also, widow screens, insect repellents, and mosquito netting over beds.
Signs and Symptoms
Symptoms: irritability and drowsiness, with poor appetite and trouble sleeping, followed by chills and a fever

How did malaria affect the Ingalls?
In Little House On The Prairie, the Ingalls family got malaria from picking berries at the creek bottoms. There were lots of mosquitoes down there. The Ingalls, and everyone else thought it was the watermelon! But it was the parasite that was on the watermelon carried by the mosquitoes. After thhat they got very very bad fevers, and also hallucinations. So....
