Only the emperor his family and servants lived in the city.

Forbidden city

The Yuan dynasty was replaced by the Ming dynasty in 1368. The emperor of Ming ordered buildings in Beijing. The forbidden city was called forbidden city because only the emperors there family and servants could live there and guards and government were forbidden to go in the city. The forbidden city was surrounded by walls in the walls there were 3 halls that emperors and government used for ceremonies.
