FEMEA District 8 Chair Elections
Online Voting January 7 - 10, 2020
Meet the Candidates for District 8 Chair
District Chair
The role of the District Chair in FEMEA is to provide local support to FEMEA members and their students and to represent their needs and concerns to the Executive Board of the FEMEA. District Chairs should be in contact with members to facilitate FEMEA activities and to communicate member benefits and business. District Chairs meet with the Executive Board in January and May, provide support at the January Conference, service the All-State Audition process, write an article for publication in the Florida Music Director, work at Regional Honor Festivals, and most importantly serve the members of their District.
Eldean Hagans, Brevard County
I wish to contribute to the unity and support of music educators by planning and promoting collaboration and professional development opportunities, by contacting and problem-solving with members and non-members in order to encourage involvement, by assisting members with the All-State and Regional audition and entry process and by serving joyfully in any capacity necessary as we work together to advance music education for all.

My district has a motto that says "students first". Everything we do is with the students in mind. I believe this goes hand in hand with FEMEA's mission particularly the components of high quality and comprehensive music education. As district chair I would focus on providing teachers to the best of my ability with support needed to operate at a high quality level and to provide comprehensive music education to their students. Regardless of whether that would be information regarding district and state level events or simply one on one support in the classroom. I want to be available as a resource or simply someone to be able to bounce ideas back and forth. I want teachers to feel comfortable reaching out and not be worried about that reflecting negatively on them because at the end of the day FEMEA and FMEA are about empowering and supporting all teachers. If teachers are given support and resources, then the students will ultimately be the benefactors.
