November 4, 2022
Thanks to all of you who were able to come out to the school and cheer on our Halloween Paraders! It was so much fun to be back out in the bus circle, just like old times, and we even invited the older kids to join in or hold hands with our little three-year-olds – it couldn’t have been any more adorable. On Wednesday, Mr. McVeigh and I hosted a well-attended parent meeting with our 8th grade parents and have now officially kicked off the high school selection process! Finally, we ended our week with a celebration of Diwali (this past Monday) in the cafeteria featuring a delicious offering of samosas and mango lassi, plus colorful sand art activities, thanks to several of our Indian families.
PTC WIZARD & PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
There is no school for students on Tuesday, November 8, but we do have virtual parent-teacher conferences in the afternoon and evening. Schedules are filling up quickly (and 7/8 is already full) so please make sure to log in and book your appointment. A separate email went out on Tuesday with the link and directions.
FALL SPORTS – CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to our modified sports teams on fantastic fall seasons! We had boys and girls soccer, volleyball, and football (via a merger with Pleasantville) teams all experience great success – plenty of thrilling victories for everyone and wonderful comradery, sportsmanship and spirit! Go Hawks! Now, winter sports are up next, which are set to start on November 30th with boys and girls basketball, plus wrestling (via a merger with Sleepy Hollow). Please make sure all necessary forms are submitted to Nurse Juliet (email@example.com).
SWAN LAKE WALK: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7
We’ve rescheduled the Foundation Swan Lake Walk for this coming Monday – which is also POCO BLUE SPIRIT DAY! It looks like it will be a gorgeous day too, but there’s still time to “make it rain” with pledges and donations to support our school’s mental health initiatives and programming that’s beyond the school budget! The walk will be part educational immersion / part fundraiser as kids learn about ecology at educational stations (run by Rockefeller staff and community volunteers) while they move around the lake. More info here on how to help and/or to make a pledge, please visit: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4ea5ae22a0fcc43-2022
Thank you to those who have already donated!
Just a reminder that middle school homework help is available to students who either have homework, need help, or both. Otherwise, students can quietly enjoy a book or, if not, then they should go home at 3:00. Thanks for understanding.
DID ANYONE LOSE A RING?
Our kids found a possible engagement ring on the gym floor this week and immediately raced it up to the office. Given that we had the Halloween party last week, I’m putting it out there in case someone has lost one. Please give us a call.
COAT DRIVE UNDERWAY!
Our annual Pocantico Coat Drive is underway and runs through November 18th! If you have any gently used coats of any size (infant to adult) that you’d like to donate, please send them in. We’re also collecting hats and gloves for kids to use at recess (and keep) when needed – thank you!
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE!
Please consider donating non-perishable foods to support our families and communities, who are always so appreciative. We will run the drive through Monday, November 21st. Thank you so much.
