Mental Health Counseling

Dear Wachusett Students and Families,

A large part of guidance counselors' roles is to help students struggling with social-emotional issues. When working with families, many parents ask us for recommendations where they can receive outside counseling support for their students. While we happily provide parents with a list of providers, they are often met with difficulty getting their insurance to match up with the counseling provider, or are often put on long waitlists.

I am pleased today to announce a new partnership that we at the high school have made with William James College, formerly Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. The college runs a service called Interface, which parents can call to get connected with a counselor in the area. Interface takes the frustration and wait time out of the experience, as students can be matched with a counseling provider within a matter of two weeks.

Instead of calling all sorts of providers to find a counselor, you only need the 1 phone number for Interface. The person who answers your call at Interface is a Master's Degree level professional who will help not only get you a therapist for your son/daughter, but who will get the best possible match in terms of personality and therapy type.

This is a phenomenal service that many school districts across Massachusetts use. We are excited to be able to offer it to you. Though please keep in mind, this service is only available to students who currently attend Wachusett Regional High School.

To learn more about Interface and how to use the service, please visit our Mental Health Counseling page of our website. We hope you find the service extremely valuable.

Add/Drop Period for Electives

Just a reminder that this Friday, September 8th is the last day for students to switch electives. Students who would like to possibly change their electives should make an appointment with their guidance counselors as soon as possible.

PSAT Sign-Up Information

During the school day on Wednesday, October 11th, we'll be administering the PSAT. This is a good opportunity for students to experience problems similar to those on the SAT.

Juniors automatically are registered to take the PSAT. No sign-up is necessary for Juniors. In next week's homeroom, Juniors will be given hardcopies of study packets with practice tests.

Sophomores have the option of taking the PSAT. To sign-up, Sophomores simply need to swing by guidance with a check or money order for $18 payable to WRSD. We have enough study packets with practice tests to hand out to the first 200 sophomores who sign up. Sophomores who don't get a packet can get the same information online by visiting the CollegeBoard's PSAT website: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/inside-the-test

All sophomores need to sign up by Tuesday, September 19th.

More information about standardized tests can be found on the guidance standardized test webpage.

Typically this is one of the last SAT test dates that seniors utilize.

Parents of seniors are invited to join the guidance staff in the high school auditorium to learn about the nuts and bolts of the college application process. No registration is necessary. This is typically a well attended presentation, and we hope to see you there. Students are welcome to attend but will be getting the same presentation during the school day in Homerooms the next week.

For those looking to learn more about the financial aspect, we'd invite you to stay for a presentation at 7:45 from Dave Landry of Central Mass College Funding Advisors
