MISD Prekindergarten Connections
September News from the Classroom
2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR
Dear Prekindergarten Families,
We have had a wonderful start to the school year cultivating a love for learning and exploring. Our young learners have been busy building their classroom communities. Our lessons for this month are centered around the natural curiosity of prekindergartners. Our classroom conversations and learning experiences guide our inquisitive students in answering the questions they naturally have about their school.
Focus Question 1: What names do we need to know at school?
Focus Question 2: What should we do if we get sad or scared at school?
Focus Question 3: What are our rules?
Focus Question 4: When do things happen at school?
Focus Question 5: Who works at our school?
Focus Question 6: How do we make and keep friends? How can we be part of a group?
Our focus questions naturally build on each other, creating a scaffold of knowledge and understanding upon which our children can grow and learn. Throughout each unit of study, the focus questions help us observe your child as they demonstrate their growing knowledge, skills, and abilities so we can respond intentionally to their development.
We invite you to engage in conversations with your child about all they are learning at school.
We appreciate your support,

September Spotlight Campus
Mrs. Sherrill and Mrs. Hydock are the Prek Teachers at Madeley Ranch Elementary. They have a combined teaching experience of 28 years and have taught almost every elementary grade K-5. Prek is their favorite grade!
"Pre-K is simply magical. There is something so exciting about watching our students learn something new every day. Our students are learning all about the world around them, navigating social situations, and building the foundation of lifelong learning. It doesn't get much better than that!"
What early childhood curriculum is used?
The early childhood curriculum that is used in our preschool program is Teaching Strategies. A key feature of this research-based curriculum is the “active participatory learning” process where children make daily choices about their activities and teachers help them cultivate language, develop self-regulation skills, fine and gross motor skills, and social skills as they play.
