It's Riley Caring and Sharing Week! New Year 2020!
Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend. This week is a very busy week as it is our annual fundraising week to support the amazing Riley Hospital for children. The events are listed below.
Riley Week Events 2020
Dress-Up Days - $1.00 per day
Monday - Pajama Day
Tuesday - Superhero/Disney Day or VSCO Girl/EBOY (80's-90's Trend-see below)
Wednesday - Hat Day
Thursday - Summer in the Winter Day (Pants MUST be worn over shorts to and from school & during outside recesses.) AND an additional $0.50 to buy a freeze pop at lunch.
Friday - Dress like you're 100 years old! It's the 100th day of school!
Popsicle Sale
As noted above, popsicles will be sold at lunch on THURSDAY for $0.50.
Knockout Contest (grades 2-5) & Free Throw Contest (grades K-1)
*Students pay $1 BY TUESDAY to enter the Contest. There will be one boy & one girl winner in grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5.
Coloring Contest
*Students pay $1 to enter the “Get Well” coloring contest. All entries must be completed and turned in BY THURSDAY. One winner per grade!
(If, like us, you were confused by what VSCO girl & EBOY dress up day is, here are descriptions!
VSCO-long oversized shirts, scrunchies in hair, on wrists, or on water bottles, thread or beaded bracelets, shell or bead necklace, shoes like crocs, vans, converse, or buckled sandals with socks.
EBOY-"skater boy or sloppy look"- mostly black, or striped shirts, plaid pants, vans or converse shoes, beanie or bucket hats, chains, jean jackets)
Report Cards
Our report cards for second quarter came home on Friday. Thank you for looking over them and signing and returning them to me. I will return them to you for you to keep after I know everyone has had a chance to look them over.
The 100 and 200 Sight Word charts are for your reference and practice at home. The words highlighted in blue on both sides are the words your child needs to practice.

Here is what is happening in Room 140 this week!
Our Learning Goals for this week
- Read and spell long o and u words with silent e spelling pattern
- Understand Ten more and ten less on the 120 chart
- Read high frequency words ago, boy, girl, how, old, people
- Understand compare and contrast stories using story elements, plot, character, etc.
- Use commas in dates
- Second 100 Sight Words
- Math Facts 11-15 (orange scoops)
- Write an opening, closing, and fact sentence
AR Goals
New AR point goals have been set for third quarter. Ask your child what their goal is or log into AR below and check it out for yourself. The comprehension goal for everyone is 85% or higher. We will have a goal party for everyone who reaches their point and comprehension goal.
Last Friday our class won the 1st Grade AR point ribbon for the last two weeks! Woo hoo! Keep on reading.
100th Day
Friday will be the 100th day of school! We will celebrate with all kinds of fun 100 activities. The kids are able to dress up like a 100 year old on that day as well.
