Principal's message
It is a cloudy and soon to be rainy start to the Spring season over here at Lum! We have three BIG bags of jackets that we have collected from the winter months. Please come and sort through the bags if you are still looking for your lost jackets. We will be donating the clothes to the Salvation Army over Spring Break if they aren't collected.
Don't forget that this Friday, March 24th, is an early release - TK students are out at 11:40, and K-5th are out at 12:30. Later that night, we have our International Festival! I hope all families bring food for our potluck and dress in traditional cultural attire. This is a great night for Lum to shine. Take care all.

"Dad, this Pokemon does 60+ damage! He does 60 damage plus 10 more for every damage counter already on the defending Pokemon!"
"So how much would it be if there was 7 damage counters already on it?"
"Well, 60 + 7 10's is... 60 + 70, which makes 130!"

The California Education Code Section 60615 states that parents/guardians may annually submit a written request to the principal of their student's school if they do not wish to have their student take any or all tests. If a parent or guardian submits an exemption request after testing has begun, any test(s) completed before the request is submitted will be scored and the results reported to the parent or guardian and included in the pupil’s records. AUSD teachers and schools support students to do well on the tests and help them learn test-taking skills that will enable them to be successful throughout their school career and beyond. We encourage parents to contact their child's teacher or principal with any concerns they may have about the test before they request that their student be excluded from taking the test(s).
2016-2017 Volunteer Requirements
We appreciate all our volunteers and what they do for Lum School. We thank you for your cooperation with AUSD Volunteer policies, as outlined below:
1. Volunteers must complete a volunteer agreement form each year and provide a copy of their driver’s license/passport to the office. (Volunteer agreement forms in office.)
2. Principal Woodward will perform a search of the Department of Justice website (Megan’s Law).
3. If you will be regularly volunteering in a classroom, or elsewhere at the school, the school will need a clear TB test result.
4. If you will be driving on any field trips, working unsupervised with students, or spending the night on overnight field trips, you must be fingerprinted. In addition, when driving, the required driver’s insurance coverage must be provided. (Insurance coverage forms in office.)
5. Fingerprinting instructions are outlined below, and fingerprints must be cleared at least a week prior to the field trip. This process may take up to a month, so start well in advance of the field trip:
a. Pick up a Livescan form and suggested Livescan locations list from the Lum office.
b. Arrange for fingerprinting with the Alameda Police Dept. or another facility on the locations list. Pay the required fees to the fingerprint facility.
c. Have fingerprints taken and return the Live Scan form to AUSD Human Resources.
d. Human Resources will inform the office when the prints have cleared.
e. Once fingerprints are taken, they are good for life!
We truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication shown from our Lum volunteers.
