Principal's Message
I hope you are all in good health and that you were able to enjoy the FIRST SNOW DAY with our little hawks at home! Unfortunately, I am not sharing good news in this week's bulletin but I am optimistic that things will get better. After this week's student and staff testing we identified a large amount of positive pools at our school. Please read below regarding the positive pools.
35- positive student pools
1-positive staff pool
- All families of students identified in a positive pool have been informed
- All Barbieri Staff members have been informed if they are in a positive pool
- All students in positive pools will be retested individually on Monday (tomorrow) to identify the positive student(s)
- All classroom/homeroom teachers have been informed of their positive pools.
- Please remember that positive pools DO NOT mean all of the students are positive. It means that ONE or MORE than one student in that pool tested positive. That is why we will retest all students. There are approximately 4-5 students per pool.
- Please note that more than one school tests on the same day and with the surge that the city, state, and nation is experiencing, most labs are delayed.
- When results are received the FPS COVID team is working overtime to ensure I receive these results, we sort the pools/data, reach out to nurses, inform families, inform staff. It takes a VERY LONG time. Thank you very much for your PATIENCE AND SUPPORT!
A HUGE thank you to the FPS COVID TEAM that worked around the clock to support Barbieri and all other schools with the large number of positive pools this week! I am grateful for their support as they were in constant contact with me yesterday and worked quickly to inform families.
Please note that as of last week we have 531 students out of 677 enrolled in pool testing. I encourage all families to consider pool testing. This will ensure that all students are tested and that students who do test positive go home to quarantine to reduce the spread.
Thank you very much for helping us reduce the spread in our school!
Have a restful evening,
Maria
Message from Vice Principal Velazquez
Estimada Barbieri Elementary School Community,
It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I share with you my decision to resign. This has been very challenging for me but I have made the decision to relocate back to Puerto Rico with my family. Regardless, I have included my personal contact information in case I can be of support in any way.
I more than appreciate the lessons learned and sincerely wish you all nothing but the best!
Wishing you all continued health and success,
Carla Velázquez G.
