We've got SPIRIT, yes we DO!
Are you curious about spirit week? If so, then this is definitely the article for you. A couple of times each year, SMS has a school spirit week. Basically, that means we have designate each day of the week to dress up in unique and fun ways to celebrate our school! The SMS Student Council encourages students and faculty to participate in our special days this week!
Monday- Twin Day - Find a friend and dress up the same!
Tuesday- Colts Day - Wear your Colts or Blue clothes!
Wednesday- Christmas in October - Wear something Christmasy!
Thursday- Beach Day - Wear your Hawaiian or beach clothes! (no tank tops)
Friday- Spirit Day - Wear your purple, white, and yellow Scottsburg clothes!
This week is also homecoming week for SHS, and we are joining in on the fun. This week is the absolute perfect time to show your school spirit, and to show how much we love SMS! And remember, we still follow the dress code during spirit week. Please join us for spirit week!

October is Bullying Prevention Month
ONE out of five students is bullied.
FIVE out of five students can do something about it!
In the next few issues of the Scoop, we'll take a look at this social problem.
According to PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center's Teens Against Bullying website, "bullying is more than disagreements, differences of opinion, or conflicts that occur between friends and classmates." Bullying is behavior that includes one or more of the following:
- The person is being hurt, harmed, or humiliated with words or behavior
- The behavior is repeated or there is a concern that it will be repeated
- The behavior is being done intentionally
- The person being hurt has a hard time stopping or preventing the behavior
- The hurtful behavior is carried out by those who have more power, such as being older, being physically bigger or stronger, having more social status, or when a group of students single out an individual
The person that bullies is called "the person that bullies." Bullying is an action, not a character trait.
The person that is bullied is called "the target."
The person that observes the bullying action is called "the witness."
Bullying behavior has negative consequences for the target, the witness(es), and the person that bullies. What do you remember about the effects of bullying? Talk about it in homeroom RIGHT NOW.

SMS fUNdraiser October 1-10
HOW IT WORKS:
- Students explain the fUNdraiser to friends and family. This is our only all-school fundraising project. ALL funds go to SMS and participant prizes (no money goes to a company). Profits will help pay for field trip costs, teaching team activities, and both after school and homeroom clubs!
- Students record donations on the fUNd paper. fUNders can give any amount, big or small. ALL donations help SMS! Students keep the donations in any envelope.
- All donations and the fUNd record can be turned in at the SMS office ANY morning until Thursday, October 10th.
The participant prize program will be announced at the assembly tomorrow! All students will also get a fUNd paper to take home. Participation is optional, but appreciated!
