Students with Cold Symptoms

Thank you to all of the families who have partnered with us to help keep the students and staff at Prairie Point Healthy. This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is especially important that families call school before sending students who have symptoms of illness. We are working hard to handle these situations on a case by case basis so that we can keep illness outside of our school. If your child wakes up not feeling well, please do not send them on the bus or drop them at school until you speak with our school nurse, Terri Fennelly. You can reach the front office by calling 359-4380. Nurse Terri's direct line is 359-4384.

Specials Spotlight: PE

In Physical Education, the 3rd-5th grade students are working on their sports skills and strategies unit, while playing pickleball the last couple of weeks in October.

The students will work on the following learning goals:

  • Students will demonstrate a variety of sport specific lead-up games while following the rules and cooperating with others.
  • Students will apply fundamental skills in game and practice situations while using simple strategies.
  • Students will demonstrate and provide feedback for proper technique in a variety of sport specific skills.

NWEA Assessment Reports

All students recently completed NWEA assessments in Reading and Math. Our in person learners will bring home a summary of their assessment results and our online learners will be picking up their reports on Friday, October 30. A letter explaining the assessments will accompany your student's report. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your student's teacher.

Anti-Bullying Week

Big picture

The week of November 2 - November 6, 2020 will be Prairie Point’s Anti-Bullying Week. We will do an all-school spirit week and have daily lessons in each class. Our goal is to create a safe and caring school environment in which all students and adults can come to school and not need to worry about bullying!

Prairie Points Anti-Bullying School-Wide Rules:

  1. We will not bully others.
  2. We will help students who are bullied.
  3. We will try to include students who are left out.
  4. If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.

Reminder: Send students with water bottles

Virtual students are invited to have their picture taken for the yearbook on November 4 by appointment only. Please click here to sign up for a time to have your child's picture taken. Pictures will take place in the gym and students will enter through the side bus doors. Please call the front office or contact your child's virtual teacher with any questions.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Due to the changes in our school calendar this year, we do not have designated days scheduled for traditional Parent Teacher Conferences as in past years. Conferences will be held virtually on an "as-needed" basis. In fact, many conferences, or meetings with parents occur each and every day! First-quarter report cards will be available to families on November 6th. Your classroom teacher will keep you up-to-date on your student's progress. However, if you have questions or seek additional information, please reach out to your classroom teacher to schedule an opportunity to discuss your student's areas of strength and areas for growth.

Fall Parties: October 30

As you know, families will not be allowed to join us for our class parties this year. Last year, we arranged for PTA to plan fall parties for the building. No outside food is allowed in, so PTA is working on ordering everything through Park Hill Food Services.

Joining PTA would be a great way to support our school. The PTA funds help provide fun activities and extra resources to our building. Interested in joining PTA? Click here!

Costumes at Fall Parties

Students will be allowed to wear costumes during Fall Parties but must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Students will not be allowed to wear costumes all day. Costumes will need to fit over a student's clothes. Students will not be allowed to go to the restroom to change into their costume.
  • No masks or face paint
  • No weapons
  • No violent themes or ideas
  • When in doubt, choose a different costume

Family Hiking Meetup was a great success. Thank you to Premium Water for the water donations and Elsa w/ MU Extension & 4-H SNAC for providing the scavenger hunt and prizes. (I have attached a couple of photos if you would like to add any of them.

Keep your kids reading and our school thriving! Our Online Book Fair helps you do both. If you haven’t already done so, check it out!

Repeat: October Habit Focus: Begin With The End In Mind

Prairie Point has continued teaching the 7 Habits this year. Due to COVID-19, we are unable to have our traditional Habit Lunches where families join us to eat with their students on the stage. Instead, we are finding new ways to recognize students at Prairie Point.

This month, our focus will be Begin With the End in Mind. All students will study this habit and learn to make it part of their everyday lives. Consider how you can discuss this habit at home as a family!

Do You Know A Park Hill Star?

The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.

The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:

Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.

Repeat: Birthday Treats

Due to our safety guidelines, we will not be able to have food or other items brought into the school building for birthdays or other celebrations. If you are still interested in birthday treats for your students, our Food Service has options available for purchase. Click HERE for ordering information.

Repeat: Technology Use at Home

Here are some general guidelines and best practices for laptop use at home.

Thank you for your support. If you have any technology issues or questions, please contact the Help Desk Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 816-359-5000.

Our 5 Pillars of Prevention

Throughout the summer, we have been working hard to modify our building procedures and practices to make Prairie Point as safe as possible. This work has resulted in a 5 Pillars of Prevention Matrix. The 5 Pillars include: Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing, Cleaning and Disinfecting, Cohort Groups and Masks.

Please take some time to learn about Prairie Point's Health and Safety Precautions. Click here to access our matrix and other health information.
