What We're Up To

Happy February! The snow has thrown off our schedule and we are all a little out of sorts! Hopefully, the beginning of February will help us find our routine again! Here is what we have coming up!

Math - Students in third grade are currently learning about time. Practice at home with your child by having them tell time to the nearest minute. Following time, students will be entering their measuring unit.

In science, students are beginning their animal unit. Topics covered will include animal adaptations, both physical and behavioral, habitats - terrestrial and aquatic, and food chains.

Reading - in reading, we are plugging right along with reviewing all of the skills and strategies we have already learned this year. We will revisit drawing conclusions, learn about biographies and autobiographies, and identify main idea and supporting details. We have also begun working on building our stamina, or testing endurance, by using time every Monday to work on an old Reading SOL test. This is an opportunity for me to help students who might not know which strategy to use when answering a question on a test, as well as give them a semi-prolonged period of time to practice using skills we've covered together.

Valentines Day

With Valentines Day quickly approaching, I know parents have many questions about what we do in third grade. I can only speak for myself and our class, but we will have a small celebration in the afternoon on Friday, February 12. Students are more than welcome to bring in valentines for the class, as long as they bring enough for each student in our homeroom. On the same note, I do not require students to bring valentines. It's simply up to you!

Though I am unable to provide you a list of students' names in our class, I can tell you that we have 17 students currently in our class. I will work with students later this week to make sure they have the names of all of the friends in our class.

If you would like to send in a small treat for our class to enjoy this day, please let me know! Please remember that the new policy for our school system requires all treats be store-bought, with the ingredients list sent to the nurse 24 hours prior to the expected handout time. We do have students in our class with allergies, so I am strict in following this policy and apologize for the inconvenience it may cause you.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to email me or give me a call!
