Message from the Mill

Back-to-School Edition 2021

A Message from Mrs. Rhodes

Students at Puckett’s Mill kicked off the school year on August 4th. We welcomed our Kindergarten and 1st grade students in-person on Wednesday and our 2nd and 3rd grade students on Thursday. The staff is excited to welcome our “big kids” back on Monday, August 9th, making it a full house! Both in-person and digital students have had a great “Back to School” experience getting to know their teachers and classmates.

Beginning Tuesday, August 10th, all students should arrive at school beginning at 7:45 and should be in their classroom, ready to learn no later than 8:15. Students should be dropped off in the car-rider line, ride a bus, or enter the building independently as a walker. Parents will not be permitted to walk students to class and will need an appointment to visit the classroom. Please note, the car rider line will close at 8:10 to allow our staff to be in place for the start of the academic school day. Any student arriving after 8:15 is considered tardy and will need to be checked in at the front office by a parent.

Whereas time will be spent working on classroom procedures and expectations, teachers are quickly jumping into the grade level content and focusing their day on teaching and learning. With our eye on student success, we are also going to make sure that students have plenty of time to socially interact with their peers and that students’ social and emotional needs are being met.

I am looking forward to a great year!

Lisa Rhodes

Digital Curriculum Night

We will host a Digital Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 19th. We will have two zoom sessions at 6:00 and 6:45. We encourage all parents to attend to learn about what their students will be accomplishing this year at Puckett's Mill!

Transportation Changes

If at any time you need to change your student's afternoon transportation, all requests must be submitted in writing using the Transportation Change Request form found on the main page of the school's website BEFORE 10:00 a.m. Faxes and emails will not be accepted.

The completed form should be sent to school with your student and turned in to their teacher when they arrive at school. Thank you for your help to ensure the safety of our students.

Free/Reduced Lunch Form

A new free/reduced form must be filed each school year. If you were on this program last year and plan to continue this year or if your situation has changed due to recent events, you will need to fill out an application. The online application is now available. You will only need to fill out one application for all your children - even if they attend different schools in the Gwinnett County Public School system. You can access the application here.

As the approval process can take up to 10 days, you will want to fill out the application early. This ensures your students will be approved prior to the start of school. You can click here to check the status of your application.

Cafeteria Visitors

As we begin the school year, we are working to provide our students with a safe space to eat lunch. This includes creating as much distance as possible between our tables. Therefore, until further notice, we will not allow visitors at lunch.

Birthday Treats

Parents are welcome to send in with their student or DROP off STORE BOUGHT, individually, pre- wrapped treats for birthdays celebrations.

Friday Night Food Fight (Food Drive)

Puckett's Mill will participate in the Friday Night Food Fight food drive from 8/16-8/26. The winning grade level will celebrate with popsicles during an outside lunch. Please see the flyer linked here for additional information.

Digital Morning News Anchors

Do you have a 5th Grader who is interested in being an anchor on our Digital Morning News Show? Click here for the online application! All the information about the commitment needed to be an anchor is in the form. Deadline to apply is August 18th.

Summer Reading

Did your child read this summer? Students will be entered in a drawing for a special prize by completing each of the following activities, and we will recognize all students who complete activities with a certificate and special treat!
