Together We Learn, Together We Lead!
WELCOME BACK!
It saddens me deeply to not be physically present at school next week to see our children. I've thought of the day I would be able to see our children and staff back at Pleasant Lake Elementary often.
I am feeling good and plan to be back in the building on Monday, November 16th. Thank you for the many well wishes I have received. I am the only staff member that tested positive but several others had to be quarantined as a result but they are doing well with no symptoms exhibited at this time.
Please be sure to thoroughly review the information contained in this newsletter and don't hesitate to contact our main office at 248.956.2800 if you have any questions. While we are the same school community we were back in March, your child will come back to many changes to keep them and others safe.
I need your help to make sure we can keep our children and staff safe. Please be sure to keep your child at home if they are not feeling well and to take their temperature each morning before school. Also please read this newsletter and the information newsletter describing our safety protocols and practices.
Remember that we will NOT allow any child to be picked up from school after 3:30 p.m. We will start our dismissal process at roughly that time and cannot have any parents coming into the building nor dedicate several staff members to search the building for a child that has already started the dismissal process.
Lastly, each child must be picked up from school by 4:30 p.m. Always have a neighbor, close friend, and/or relative that you can trust and lives close to school in case you need are running late and cannot pick up your child by 4:30 p.m.
Thank you for your continued support, flexibility, and positive attitude as we continue this new journey together.
Together We Learn, Together We Lead!

CLASSROOM ROOM ASSIGNMENTS
Dear Pleasant Lake Elementary Parent,
You can view your child’s classroom assignment through Skyward Family Access. You may also click HERE if you need help in locating your child’s classroom placement in Skyward Family Access.
Similar to earlier this school year and in past years, all classroom assignments are final. No changes will be made. There are students that were moved from their current Our Path Teacher to another teacher to better balance the number of students in our classrooms. I know this is not ideal but must be done to avoid a classroom having several additional students in comparison to another classroom in the same grade level. Please note that any changes were done in consultation with the entire grade level. Children will look to adults in how to react to change and I hope those impacted model a positive and resilient attitude.
Our entire teaching staff is highly qualified and care about your child’s well-being and education. We are committed to providing each child an exceptional education and overall great school experience.
Remember to consistently communicate any questions, concerns, or praise to your child’s teacher. Proactive and open communication along with a trusting and positive relationship plays an important role in your child having an academically and socially successful school year.
Mrs. Brenda Raymond, Mrs. April Homer and Mrs. Amanda Gordon will be remaining as Our Path Teachers. We will miss them but are excited about the hiring of Mrs. Violet Shamoun (Mrs. Raymond), Mrs. Nicole Watson (Mrs. Homer) and Mrs. Julie Fegely (Mrs. Gordon) to teach those classrooms. Mrs. Nicole Watson will be joining our staff on November 20th and longtime PLE Building Substitute Teacher Mrs. Renea Pearl will instruct the class until then.
Together We Learn, Together We Lead.
Respectfully,
Nayal A. Maktari
Principal

Walled Lake Schools’ Foundation for Excellence (FFE)
Our school has truly benefited for nearly 30 years from the support of Walled Lake Schools’ Foundation for Excellence (FFE), a 501 ( c) 3 nonprofit. Please view snapshot of recent Foundation grant awards received by our school and allocated to the District to benefit K-12 students and educators. FFE’s outreach also includes the Shuman CDJR Performing Arts Student Grant Program and 5th Grade Camp Scholarship fund for our District’s title 1 elementary schools. Check out FFE’s fall flyer or visit the Foundation’s website to more fully understand the FFE’s commitment to WLCSD.
The Foundation is sustained through annual fundraising (Tuition Expedition 50/50 Scholarship Raffle, Count on Me Program-WLCSD staff payroll donations, & golf scramble), private and public sector donations and receipt of memorials, honorariums, and alumni gifts. Donations can be made online to help sustain FFE’s mission and support for our schools. Checks are also accepted and can be made payable to the Foundation for Excellence and mailed to 850 Ladd Rd., Bldg. D, Walled Lake, MI 48390.
