It's Been a Great Week at Hoover!
Fall is Coming
As the leaves and weather start to change, please be sure that your student is dressed properly for the day. All students go outside for recess everyday unless the temperature and combined windchill fall below 20 degrees per the elementary student handbook. Sometimes students may need a jacket for the morning, but take it off in the afternoon. Sometimes these items end up in our lost & found. Please make sure your student's items are labeled with their name. If you think your child is missing something, encourage them to check the lost and found!
LOST & FOUND
The lost and found is very full! Please encourage your student to check the lost and found for any items they may have left behind after camp, forgot on the playground, or dropped in the hallway.
Check Grades in Power School
Report card time for the first nine weeks is approaching quickly. The end of the 9 weeks will be here on October 4th.Keep up with your child's classroom by checking for their current grades and missing assignments in Power School. It's quick & easy. You can even set it up so grades are emailed to you weekly. If you ever have any questions about your child's progress, please contact their classroom teacher.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled on or around Oct.10th. Teachers will be contacting parents to schedule conferences. If you have a time preference, let your student's teacher know.
Notes from the Nurse
Good nutrition is a key to good health and success here at Hoover. It’s important for our students to receive the proper nutrients they need to fuel their mind and body! Here are a few tips for packing a nutritious lunch for your child that will have them excited for lunchtime (courtesy of foodsmarts.com):
It’s very important to incorporate all five food groups: fruits, vegetables, protein, low-fat dairy, and whole grains.
Make healthy food fun: use cookie cutters to make shapes out of bread, meat, cheese, fruits, etc.
Get your kids involved: give them healthy options from each food group and let them decide. Take your child to the grocery store with you and let them have a say in what goes into the cart.
School age children should be drinking at least 6-8 cups of water a day. Let them pick out their favorite water bottle and encourage them to fill it up at least twice during the day at school.
Make your own snacks. Snacks are great for keeping their energy up but choosing the right kind is important. For example: Ants of a log (celery and peanut butter with raisins on top) Be creative! It can be challenging to find fun and creative ways to encourage your child to eat healthy. Pinterest is a great resource for ideas. Drop-off
Car riders and walkers can be dropped off as early as 7:30 AM at Door 12 facing Elm St. For everyone's safety - Do NOT drop off students along the bus lane behind the school in the south parking lot. Cars should pull up to the school along the sidewalk facing south along Elm St. You may release your car rider anywhere along the sidewalk to walk to Door 12 by the cafeteria. Once your car rider is a safe distance from the car, please proceed to South St. by the PT Building and turn left or right to continue on your morning route. For everyone's safety please do not make a U-turn on Elm St. or drive through the South Parking lot where bus riders are being released from buses. Students who arrive after 8:05 must enter through the school office at Door 1 and receive a tardy pass to class. Door 12 will be locked promptly at 8:05.

Dismissal begins at 2:30. Car riders and walkers will be released from classes out Door 1 by the office. Drivers may park in the marked parking spaces in front of Hoover School to wait for their car riders to come outside.
