Eagle Leaders Letter
A Weekly Message from SHS Administration | 9-18-20
Out of These Ashes, Beauty Will Rise
The hearts of staff at Stayton High School, and throughout our district, are broken for our canyon community. The losses due to wildfires have touched every one of us--some personally and some through our connections with students and families. Some reading this letter may be doing so from a temporary home. Those fortunate enough not to be impacted by fire were gearing up for school to start and are now back to waiting. After six months of anything but normalcy, we have collectively been battered.
But as Mr. Rogers famously said, when you see scary things, you will always find people who are helping. That was the case 19 years ago, and that has certainly been the case over the last couple weeks. We owe gratitude to our firefighters and first responders. There were citizens who headed into dangerous areas to help others evacuate and to document the damage for those anxiously awaiting news. There were others--including many wonderful Eagles staff--who sprung into action, gathering generous donations from around the nation, making shopping trips, and handling urgent deliveries to those in great need.
Moments like these underscore what is truly important.
I have heard many say that after the trials of 2020, we will be strong enough to handle anything. In watching the kindness overflow from our community in the last few days, I have to agree: as individuals, part of the Stayton High School family, and Oregonians, we will grow from this and emerge better than ever.
Distribution Days
Some materials are needed for students to successfully engage in Distance Learning at home. We have bundles created for every student, including textbooks, materials, a planner, your schedule, and more. This will happen from Noon - 6:00 PM at the Field House in a drive-up format. Chromebooks will be available for pick up at this time for those who need an extra device at home.
As much as possible, please come on the day that corresponds to your name; that will allow us to control crowds and ensure accuracy. Thanks!
