Message From The Principal

Meet The Teacher

Educating children is a partnership between school and home. We work together to provide the best possible learning experiences through a Christ-centred, child – focussed lens. The Meet the Teacher night was as the title suggests, an opportunity to meet the person behind the teacher label and find out what will be happening in your child’s class this year. It was fabulous to see so many parents in attendance; I trust you found the information provided of value. For those who were unable to attend, please reach out to your child’s teacher and they will provide you with a summary of the meeting.

Kiss n Ride

For the safety of all, adults picking up or dropping off are asked to stay in their cars. Children will either be supervised to cross over at the church and escorted to you at your car in the afternoon. Family names on the dashboard assists those staff on duty and makes for a smoother pick up. If you have misplaced your laminated family label, please contact the office.

Playgroup

This year the playgroup will run on a Monday morning in the Dance Hall. Please see more information below from our P&F.

Whole School Mass

This morning we gathered as a school to celebrate the Eucharist and welcome new members to our school community. Fr Ruben commissioned those new staff members in attendance: Jodie Barton, Alice O’Hanlon, Fran Da Rui, Emily Orr, Mark Di Blasi, Zac Baker, Olivia Robertson and Natalie Vennitti. In addition, Emma Cochrane, Vitoria Walker and Christine Collie were welcomed.

Sacramental Program

We warmly welcome Angela Coon as the parish based Sacramental Coordinator for 2023. Angela is working closely with the school to ensure the program runs very smoothly. Enrolment Commitment Masses for all children receiving a Sacrament this year are Saturday 18th February @ 6pm or Sunday 19th February @ 9:30 am. Children need only attend one Mass. There will be a morning tea after the 9.30am mass where all families are welcome. Please bring a plate. If you have any questions regarding your child's sacrament this year, please contact Angela via email: acoon@bigpond.net.au

Evening on the Green

Don’t forget the EOTG from 5-8pm on Friday 17th February. We look forward to seeing many families here for this community event and particularly welcome those who are new to St Luke’s Catholic Primary. A huge thank you to our Year 1 parents who are doing an amazing job organising many activities for this night.

God Moments

Lots of beautiful new life present around our school today!

I look forward to journeying with you all this year.

Bushfire Evacuation Drill

St Luke's Catholic Primary is in a bushfire risk area. As part of our commitment to safety, the school has a clearly defined bushfire plan. This includes lockdown and evacuation procedures. The school also follows a maintenance plan where guttering and downpipes are cleared regularly, and arborists monitor trees on site on an annual basis.

Cyber Safety Student and Parent Workshops 7th March

Thank you to our P&F who have offered to sponsor a cyber safety workshop for parents and all students in Years 3 to 6 on the 7th of March. Dr Kayelene Kerr (who presented to our community in 2021) will return to work with the students during the day and will then a host a parent only information session from 5.30 - 7.30pm in our Hall.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to discuss important issues as a family and be on the same page after Dr Kayelene's workshops. Parents please register your attendance at this FREE workshop by clicking here. Thank you again to our P&F for covering the costs of this very worthwhile initiative.

Uniform Update

It was wonderful to officially introduce our new school uniform this year. The students all look amazing! Just to clarify, girls may choose to wear shorts or a short with the sport uniform.

As previously mentioned, we will have a 2 year transition period where the old uniform will be accepted. Please be mindful if you are purchasing the new uniform, to not mix pieces of old and new. If you are in the new uniform, please wear the new shorts with the new shirt. Thank you for your assistance with this.

We will have full implementation of the new uniform in 2025. This means that all our current students in Year 5 and 6 will not need to change their uniform over if they do not wish to. We hope this will give our families enough time to transition to the new uniform without a great expense to each family.

Uniforms you no longer need?

Laura Hodgen has kindly been researching options for old uniforms to be recycled and repurposed. So if you are not passing them onto other families, please hold onto any items you no longer need. We imagine a lot of families will be buying new uniforms over the holidays and we don’t want all the old ones to be thrown in the bin! If anyone would like to assist in this initiative or has any suggestions / contacts please contact Laura at laurahodgen@outlook.com

Sustainability

Chickens

If you are wondering why the Cluck Club has remained empty this term, our last couple of chickens died of old age during the school holidays. We now have some new chickens that have joined our school community and will be appearing very soon once they are bigger.

Organic Waste

Don’t forget each day we collect any organic waste from the students’ crunch ‘n sip, recesses and lunches. These are then recycled here at school. Any single use plastic items need to be returned home in the students’ lunch boxes. There are wonderful lunch box choices that reduce the need to use plastic wrap. Don’t forget there are ways that we can reduce the amount of plastic packaging in lunch boxes. Buying in bulk is a great start.

Recycling

At St Luke’s we recycle household batteries, aluminium cans (Containers for Change ID# C10276271), Nespresso coffee pods, bread tags and plastic bottle tops. These have a new home in 2023 which is outside the Cluck Club near the office. Thanks for all of the donations that came through in 2022.
