ART with Mrs. Losch

Kindergarten through 3rd grade students were inspired by blue and white, porcelain vases from China. My student teacher, Mrs. Valentine, created the bulletin board with their beautiful artwork for all to see. Each project is designed to showcase for our Multicultural night in March
The 4th and 5th graders created their own masks that were inspired by Beijing Opera masks. Students selected the character traits, colors, and emotions that they wanted their mask to possess. This project was a collaboration between Mrs. Wang (Chinese Teacher), Mrs. Valentine (Student teacher), and Mrs. Jarvis (Parent and substitute teacher, and it took us all to make it successful for the students.

The FCPS STARTALK pre-camp activities began on January 9th. The theme is Explore Chinese through STEAM. It hosts two activities monthly. There are a total of 43 participants including students in kindergarten to 5th grade. The participants made and tasted dumplings and noodles in January. They had a lot of fun with the hand-on activities.

Students in K-3rd grade experienced Chinese New Year celebrations as well. They did paper cutting and origami, made lanterns and practiced lion dance. They also can retell the zodiac animal story, name and identify animals.

4th grade students are learning about their favorite sports/games. 5th graders are learning about cities around the world. All 4th-5th graders learned about Beijing opera in the Chinese class and made Beijing opera masks in the art class.

LIBRARY with Mrs. Serres

In the month of January, 3rd-5th grade students have been creating stop animation films using our new Hue HD cameras. They have used a variety of materials to produce short films by taking multiple frames (pictures) and string them together to make a reel (video). Their creativity has really shined during this project! The kids absolutely love working with stop animation.

K-2 have been learning about digital citizenship and how to be safe when using devices online.
