Brad Nadeau Scholarship
Brad Nadeau was a strong, kind-hearted and non-judgmental young man. He was a proud member of the soccer and track teams here at Essex High School. He loved being surrounded by all of his friends and teammates. He worked extremely hard and powered through many obstacles to achieve his successes. But as focused as he was on his own goals, he did not hesitate to assist a friend in need. Brad lived his life with a charitable spirit and strong passion to help others. Brad died in April 2012 from an undetected heart condition. Brad’s goal was to work in the human services field as he wanted to give of himself to others. This $1,000 scholarship was established by his family and friends to embody Brad’s values and his compassion for friends and community.

Students Demand Action
Students Demand Action is a nation-wide gun violence prevention movement that works to enact common sense gun laws across the country. Click here to get involved with our local chapter!
In the news:
Last week, the House of Representatives passed a pair of bills to expand background checks to gun shows and private dealers, as well as to close the Charleston Loophole. The Charleston Loophole allows a potential gun owner to receive the firearm three days after the required background check is started, even if the background check isn’t completed. By closing the Charleston Loophole, it will prevent people who may be a danger to themselves or others from purchasing a firearm. In 2019, the Charleston Loophole allowed 2,989 firearms to be purchased by people who are prohibited from purchasing firearms (Everytown for Gun Safety). Read more about the bills here.
