The Westmoreland WrapUp
Sharing Information with our Families!
Welcome to Westmoreland School!
Important Info and safety procedures...
We have many safety precautions in place at Westmoreland School to ensure each child's safety. When walking to and from school, we ask that all students cross ONLY at the crosswalk where Crossing Guard Ken or Crossing Guard Cathy are on duty. Crossing in the middle of the street or between cars is unsafe.
Please do not double park during drop off or pull along the yellow curb. It is difficult for school buses to get through and police circle to ticket offenders frequently. Additionally, we kindly request that you do not block any driveways during drop off. Sadly, this has prevented our neighbors from getting to work on time:( .
I am a fan of four-legged friends too; however, The Board of Education Policy No. 7490 states: Pet animals are not permitted on school district grounds, except by the express permission of the Building Principal. Without such permission, a pet owner who brings or permits his/her animal on school grounds has committed an act of trespass.
Therefore, we ask that parents please refrain from bringing dogs onto school grounds when dropping off or picking up your children. We are unaware of each pet’s vaccination and/or health records, therefore, animals can pose a health risk to our students. In addition, many of our students may have allergies or may be fearful of dogs.
We ask that you please adhere to our district policies and school regulations so that we can ensure that our school will remain a safe and healthy environment for our students.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT!
This year, we are trying something NEW for our K-5 classroom presentations which we hope will allow parents with multiple children to visit both classrooms and hear multiple teacher presentations. For example, if you have a kindergarten and 1st grade student, you can visit your child’s Kindergarten classroom during Session 1 and your child’s 1st grade classroom during session 2.
Each K-5 classroom teacher will provide two identical informative sessions
(Session I: 6:30-7:00 and Session II 7:30-8:00 K-5)
All K-5 classrooms will be open for parent visitation. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and hear about the wonderful projects and activities students will enjoy this year. Teachers will present an overview of grade level curriculum and introduce parents to the routines/procedures in place.
7:05-7:25 Parent Meeting in the Gymnasium
All parents are asked to attend an informative session with Mrs. Dell’Aglio to hear about school wide initiatives and goals. PTO and FLASE Board Members will also introduce themselves and provide information.
We are continuing to offer optional, informational pre-sessions from 6:00-6:30 for parents to meet some of the resource/support personnel with whom your child may work throughout the school year. Featured Authors of the Month...
Have you ever read the children's picture book, The Dot written by Peter Reynolds? This engaging, inspiring tale demonstrates the power of a little encouragement. At the beginning of the story, main character Vashti, sulks next to her blank paper at the end of art class: "I just can't draw", she says. The art teacher responds, "Just make a mark and see where it takes you." Vashti takes a marker and jabs at her paper, making a minuscule dot. The teacher gently pushes the paper toward her and quietly says, "Now sign it. " When Vashti returns to school the next day, her signed picture hangs in a large gold frame over her art teacher's desk, which inspires this the budding artist to persist and be the best painter she can be.
This endearing story gave us the idea to feature our amazing students' work as Authors of the Month. Each month, we will continue to showcase two authors from each class. Students' writing pieces will be displayed in a gold frame in the front lobby of our school. Parents will receive a notification letter letting you know your child's work has been selected. We encourage parents, grandparents and family members to come visit the display throughout the month and to leave a compliment behind for your special author!
