From the Guidance Department....
Teachers can pay $5 for jeans week during midterms (Dec. 15-19) as a fundraiser for the senior prom. Mrs. Van Winkle and Mrs. Clawson will be coming around during prime time next week to collect money. You can also send money to the counseling office at your convenience. Money will be collected through Friday, Dec. 12.
Monday, December 8th starts our social media awareness week. That day the counselors will provide prime time teachers with a scripted lesson for all students. The rest of the week the activities will be broadcast so that prime time remediation is not interrupted.
In January we will kick off our month long anti-bully campaign. Student posters will be displayed throughout the school reminding everyone how to prevent and stop bullying.
If you have a teacher's aide (not a drivers education aide) and they have not turned in their Anti-Bully poster, I need to see them right away.
Supplement Your Stretched Budget
GetEdFunding is a free and fresh website sponsored by CDW•G to help educators and institutions find the funds they need in order to supplement their already stretched budgets. GetEdFunding hosts a collection of more than 3,400 (and growing) grants and other funding opportunities culled from federal, state, regional and community sources and available to public and private, preK–12 educators, schools and districts, higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations that work with them. GetEdFunding offers customized searches by six criteria, including 43 areas of focus, eight content areas and any of the 21st century themes and skills that support your curriculum. After registering on the site, you can save the grant opportunities of greatest interest and then return to them at any time. This rich resource of funding opportunities is expanded, updated and monitored daily.
This week's Tech Minute highlights eduCanon.

Each year, many young children and families will get much-needed help through the Angel Tree program. However, we often forget that many big kids do without at Christmas, too. So, each year the Student Council sponsors an Angel Tree drive for high-school age kids throughout Rutherford County.
If your 1st period would like to sponsor an angel, simply email Mr. Smith. He will send you a list of needs, sizes, etc. You and your 1st period will collect money and purchase the gifts on your own. Bring the gifts (wrapped or unwrapped) to school by the 1st day of exams (Monday, Dec. 15th). Student Council will pick those gifts up and get them to the appropriate families. Call or email Mr. Smith with any questions.
The PTO’s “One and Done” donation drive will be held the week of December 8th. You will receive an envelope with instructions. Please encourage students to ask their parents to participate as all funds will go directly to support of instruction at BHS!

We now have an online site to purchase official Blackman High School merchandise. You can design items yourself or pick from what they have. They will be sending us some coupons for the website in the next few days. The school does get a cut from the proceeds of anything that is sold on this site. Holly has included the link on our website and I have listed it below. Great place to buy Christmas gifts. It will be here before we are blink.
To commemorate Blackman's 15th anniversary, we will be selling a special edition "Blackman Traiditions" homecoming shirt. You may have seen our Student Council members wearing a similar shirt throughout the year.
The shirts come in blue, orange, or black. You may choose long sleeve or short sleeve. The cost is $12 for short sleeve and $17 for long sleeve
For teachers, we will sell them to you at cost - $10 for short sleeve and $14 for long sleeve.
The last day to order is Monday, Dec. 15th.
The Guidance department is selling Blackman Christmas ornaments to raise money for the senior prom. Ornaments are $5 and can be purchased from the bank during lunch starting Monday or from the counseling office. Thanks!
