Dear Valley View Parents and Families,

It’s hard to believe, but we only have seven weeks of school left. I really enjoy this time of year because we get to see how much our students have grown, we get to have events that transition students to the next phase in their school life, and we get to have fun together.

There are a lot of important dates coming up at the end of the year. Some of them are specific to classes or groups of students (like choir concerts), and some involve entire grade levels or the entire school. I’ve included the list of entire grade-level or entire school events we have in the final seven weeks so you can get them on your calendars:

• As a reminder, state testing starts this week. The WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science) is the first test, and happens on Monday and Tuesday of this week, the English-Language Arts SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessment) will take place the week of May 9th, and the Math SBA will take place the week of May 16th. If your student is absent on an assessment day, they will be contacted once they return to school as to when they will make their testing up. Make-up testing will happen during the school day.

• On May 20th, our 8th grade students will take a field trip up to Glacier Peak High School. The purpose of the field trip is to help them understand what high school is like, and what academic and extracurricular opportunities there are. Students will be able to ask questions of a panel of high school students, engage in team-building activities with high school students, and attend a club fair where they can sign up to get more information about clubs they are interested in. More information about the field trip will be coming out as we get closer to the date.

• If you have an incoming 7th grade student (current 6th grader), we will be having a transition field trip for them on either June 1st or 2nd, depending on what school they attend. Students will play team-building games with our leadership students, hear about the middle school experience, eat lunch at Valley View, and get a tour of the school in small groups. More information about this field trip will be coming out from your student’s elementary school.

• The 8th Grade Celebration will be taking place on Friday, June 10. Tickets will cost $15, but let your student’s counselor know if cost is an issue. Information about ticket sales will start in the next couple of weeks. Watch for information about tickets and the event itself as we get closer to the event.

• Library books will need to be turned in to the library by June 10.

• Unless we hear otherwise from our Technology Department, we plan on collecting student computers during the second week of June. Students should be prepared to turn their computers, hotspots, and power cords in.

• Campus Day will happen on June 16. During Campus Day, we have a modified schedule where classes take place in the morning, and after lunch, students participate in fun activities all around our school campus that are hosted by our school staff members. Students who are participating in the Talent Show (see below) will be participating in a rehearsal in the gym during a portion of Campus Day.

• Does your student have a talent that they would like to show their classmates? There will be a talent show during an assembly on the last day of school, June 20. Mr. Mines, our band teacher, organizes the talent show.

Yearbooks are still available if you haven‘t yet purchased. Cost is $25 either in person at Bookkeeping window (with cash/check/credit) or online from May 2nd-20th using link https://wa-snohomish.intouchreceipting.com. Quantities are limited so purchase yours today!

If you are unsure if you have purchased a yearbook, you can check your student account online, check the list posted outside Bookkeeping window, or see Bookkeeper, Jackie Dalrymple.

If you have fines or fees due, please pay in Bookkeeping office or online. Students with fines will not receive their yearbook on distribution day if they have not paid their fines/fees by June 6th.

If you are participating in Track and have not paid your $50 Sports Fee, please do so before May 6th or you will not be eligible to participate in the first competition.

Our small item lost and found is overflowing with eyeglasses, jewelry items, watches, etc. Students can stop by the main office and see Mrs. Dow if they are looking for a lost item. Recognize any of the eyeglasses pictured below?

On Friday, June 10, our 8th graders get to have their first middle school dance! Traditionally, there is a slideshow of student pictures playing during the dance - we'd like to continue this tradition. If there are pictures of your 8th grader that you'd like to have included, please email them to Corie Reed at dancevalleyview@gmail.com. Please make sure that these photos are pictures with your Valley View student in them specifically. Photos need to be received no later than Monday, May 16th. Thank you!

You can call Mrs. Dow our attendance secretary at 360-563-4227. If leaving a message, please indicate the first and last name of student, the spelling of name, date(s) of absence/tardy, and the reason.

If you need an early release of your student during the school day, please give as much notice as possible, our goal is to have your student ready to leave campus at the time you requested. You can either send a note with your child that they drop off in the morning or you can call.

Please complete Student Transportation Input Form

So that we can better plan student transportation needs and routes/schedules for the 2022—2023 school year, we have implemented an online Student Transportation Input Form at www.sno.wednet.edu/ridethebus Between now and through early summer, we are asking all parents/guardians of 2022-2023 students to please complete this form. The form only needs to be completed once per student.

Dig this — two Seattle-area students were semifinalists in a national contest run by NASA in which kids in grades K-12 were tasked with designing a robot that could scoop up and transport lunar soil.

The Lunabotics Junior Contest winners were named at the end of March and among 20 kids in the final pack were Ke “Max” Jiang of Bellevue, Wash., and our own Mason Lysaght of Snohomish! The contest attracted approximately 2,300 design submissions.

InvestEd is a fund that helps our students in financial need stay involved in school events and activities. You can help by shopping and using your rewards card. You will still earn your rewards points, fuel points, and rebates.

To Use the Fred Meyer Community Rewards Program:
Simply go to visit https://www.fredmeyer.com. Once logged into your Fred Meyer account scroll to the bottom and click on Fred Meyer Community Rewards. Click on "search for organization" to link your card to Valley View Valley View Middle School and then click Enroll. From the app click on the 3 bars on left, go to rewards, community, search for Valley View and enroll! New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.

*If you do not yet have a Fred Meyer rewards card, they are available at the customer service desk at any Fred Meyer.

Thank you to families who ordered Spirit Wear – we love your school spirit! For families who requested their Spirit Wear orders be sent to the school, we regret that we are not able to do school delivery this year. These orders should be available for pick-up at the Streamline building at 1910 Bickford Ave. Suite H, Snohomish. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes! To fix this problem for the future, Streamline will be removing the ‘deliver to school’ option. We have a number of clubs available to students. All require a parent permission form, those can be located on the flier table outside of the main office. All are welcome!

Thank you to all of those who signed up to volunteer for Parent Club through our website or at Viking Days! We really appreciate your interest, even though we don’t know exactly what to expect this school year. We do know that volunteers that are in the building must be vaccinated. We’ve sent a communication out from the VVMSPC email with some info on upcoming events. Please check your spam or junk mail folder if you did not receive anything. If you still do not see anything from us, please reach out to info@vvmspc.org so we can check our list and get you added.
