Message from the Principal
Dear Cardinal Families,
I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe. We are off to an excellent start for our second semester! As I type this letter, our teachers and office staff are preparing our students’ first semester grades. We slowed the reporting of grades down this year because some of our students needed time extensions because of quarantines during our exam days.
Therefore, students’ first-semester report cards will be available electronically this Friday, January 28, 2022, on Parent and StudentVue. We will hand out formal report cards during our 6th hour on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. If your student does not have a 6th hour at the High School, they can stop into the DHS Main Office on Thursday, February 3, 2022, to pick up their report card.
Additionally, if your student is behind in credits because they failed a class or two they can assign up with their counselor for a free 7th-hour class. The classes are free this semester; however, if they do not complete the course, they will need to refund the district the cost of the course. To get the class your student wants, we will need to process the course information in the next two weeks. The classes will meet every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the semester from 2:45 PM to 4:00 PM in our Computer Lab in room 301. If your son or daughter does not have transportation after school, an alternative plan will be made for them. For more information about the 7th-hour credit recovery, please contact our Counseling Department.
Attention Senior parents, Davison’s local scholarship applications are open until the first week of March. Students can find a list and description of our local scholarships at our Counseling Department’s Google Classroom using the code Z4ffurr. Also, below in this newsletter, you will find similar information on our Local Scholarships. If your Senior needs help to find or complete a local scholarship application, they can speak with our counselors or with our new Student Advisor in our DHS Career Center.
The Genesee Opportunity Scholarship is available to all Genesee County high school graduates to offset post-secondary training or college costs. For more information on this easy to receive scholarship, please go to https://www.geneseego.org.
Seniors preparing to attend college after high school should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) application soon. FASFA is a process for some Seniors to receive free or reduced tuition from public and private institutions. The College Board offers scholarships to students as well as other resources, and you can find out more information on their scholarships opportunities at https://opportunity.collegeboard.org.
Attention Junior parents, the SAT exam is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Junior and underclassmen students should be preparing now. Some colleges have waived the SAT requirement for admission, however many scholarships still require a high SAT score. We encourage our students to sign up for the free SAT questions and exams on https://www.collegeboard.org.
We at DHS take student teasing, harassment, and bullying seriously. Our students’ physical and mental safety is our number one priority. DHS uses the anti-bullying strategies of STOP, WALK, and TALK. If your son or daughter is experiencing teasing, harassment, or bullying, they should first tell the person to stop the unwanted behavior. Suppose the student continues or the behavior was a violation of our policies. In that case, they should walk away and report it to you, the parent, and any of our staff members to be handled appropriately and swiftly.
Throughout February, we at DHS will celebrate the accomplishments of great African Americans in history. Our goal as an educational institution ion to celebrate the historical accomplishments of those who made a difference in the lives of so many Americans and the world.
Finally, please help me give a tremendous shout-out to our fantastic faculty and staff at Davison High School. Our teachers, counselors, success coordinators, administrators, secretaries, security, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, cooks, co-ops, and custodians have been working non-stop to help make this most challenging year work for students. As you know, labor shortages, COVID-19, quarantines, misinformation on social media, and the continued stresses on our students, families, and especially staff have been difficult this year. If you have any questions or concerns or read something on Facebook and it does not sound right, please give us a telephone call at 810. 591. 3531. Be well, stay safe, and Go, Cards!
Sincerely,
Ron J. Jacobs

Say Hello to Xello
Hello DHS,
Davison Community Schools and the GISD are implementing new 8- 12 grade college and career planning software called Xello. Xello replaced Career Cruising.
Xello is an engaging program that helps students explore and build individualized career plans for their future, coupled with the knowledge of the skills required for various careers and pathways. We are excited to fully implement this program to promote deeper student and family engagement in ongoing career readiness and post- secondary exploration.
Xello is now out in our middle and high school. The GISD has prepared the details for this year’s EDP process and shared it with the school district.
I know many of you have used Career Cruising in your classrooms with great success. I anticipate you will enjoy using Xello too.
Some teachers and students have started using Xello, I will be posting on google classroom counseling office, to help keep them on task. I can share more information about Xello with you. If you would like to be a part of using Xello and would like to have Xello access, please reach out to me at awells@davisonschools.org or int 1279. Any questions please ask.
- Anna Wells

Key Club Event
The next event Key Club has decided to host. On January 24th and possibly the 25th we will be making blankets for Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Lapeer Region and the Hurley Hospital's NICU. The blanket making will take place in the library.
Then, we are making cards for the City of Davison, Davison Township and Richfield Township, as well as a senior citizen home in Davison, we are just awaiting confirmation from them. The cards will be for valentines day, and we will be making them on February 2nd.
Any support is appreciated, thank you.

Parking on Campus
We are working daily to assign all students who have submitted a vehicle registration to a parking spot, however, we do have a waiting list. If you have not submitted a vehicle registration, please do so as soon as possible.
If you are parking on campus in someone else's spot, your vehicle may be towed at your expense. Security will be ticketing vehicles parked without a permit.
