Welcome Back from Your Principal, Mrs. Kellogg
Dear MHS/MAA Students and Families,
We are excited to begin the 2022-2023 school year! I couldn’t be happier to start my 27th year in the North Clackamas School District as your principal. Last year we learned a lot as we transitioned back to school after being apart for a year and a half. It was wonderful to be together, but we had to relearn how to interact with large numbers of people, how to navigate a new building, and students had to get used to having eight different classes. This year we are starting fresh. We always need to take care of ourselves both physically and emotionally, but it is also a time to be courageous and find a way to get involved with our community. I am excited to see what the 2022-2023 school year will bring. We look forward to seeing you all next week!
COUNSELING
Our wonderful tech scheduler and counselors have been working hard to make the best possible schedules for all of our students. Students' schedules will be available the evening of September 2 on StudentVUE and ParentVUE. Incoming students from Rowe will have the same login credentials for StudentVUE. New students can call our main office at 503-353-5842 for assistance logging in. Assistance will also be provided during Making a Mustang Day.
The first week of school, counselors will be supporting students that have a missing class, are in the wrong level of a class, or have a "see counselor" on their schedule. Students should come to the counseling office during the period that there is a problem in their schedule (Example: I am missing a 2nd period class, I will come to the counseling office during the second period). For any other schedule adjustments please complete this form. Reasons schedule changes will be denied: you forecasted for the class, teacher change, convenience or dropping a yearlong class mid-year. Please talk with your counselor if you have questions outside of these - i.e. adding a performing arts class instead of study hall. We want your student to have a rich and exciting educational experience!
Here are some dates you might want to keep in mind: Last day to add a class 9/22, last day to drop a class 10/5.
Kudos to the students who came in for the College JumpStart the last week of August! It was a great turn out. We will be offering more support for students accessing college throughout the school year. Starting later in September, the counselors will be in the Career Center during lunches on Thursdays and we are hosting a Milwaukie FAFSA night on Monday, September 26. Stay tuned for more information about these opportunities.
Please feel free to reach out to the counselors if you have any questions.

ATHLETICS
Hello Mustang Family,
Fall season is off and running with our soccer teams getting us going before school starts up. We are seeing record numbers of participants in all of our sports teams and we are still open to more players in football and cross country. Rochelle Jackson and I are very excited to be starting our fourth year as your athletic department and welcome all to stop by the main office with questions regarding your registration, team sign up information on FamilyID, or any other general athletics questions. Be sure to follow our teams on OSAA, as that is the location of our official team schedules. You can also check your team level on the site with the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Junior Varsity 2 tabs at the top of each page. Please visit our website for more information at https://milwaukieathletics.com/.
Our first home football game is September 9th vs. Parkrose. This year at the games we will have food carts serving varied options of food, as well as, the return of Kona Ice as an athletic sponsor and their sno-cone food truck. Hope to see you there!

STUDENT SUPPORT
Welcome back! We look forward to seeing all of our returning students and the opportunity to meet our newest Mustang family members. We are excited for the 2022-2023 school year to start and we are here to support each and every one of you from your first day of 9th grade to your graduation day.
Two of our primary responsibilities are to maintain student safety and support student learning. Reflecting on last year, we have two major areas that we want to focus on- attendance and electronic devices. This year we are putting a few structural changes in place to address these areas. We wanted to communicate these adjustments and ask for your support.
Student expectations:
Students are expected to be in class on time with their Chromebook charged and ready everyday. Please complete this form for your student’s school chromebook use.
It is important to be in class on time, so that instruction is not missed.
If students arrive more than 10 minutes late, without an excuse slip, they will be marked absent (some reasons for an excuse slip to be given: late bus, doctor or counseling appointment, student finishing up a test with another teacher).
Students must have a pass when not in a class.
Students with an excused period must either be off campus or in the commons.
If students are in the commons, staff will be asking to see student schedules. It is important that we know who is in the building and that they are in the right place.
All phones and electronic devices are expected to be silenced and out of sight while in the classroom. I have included the NCSD policy here: NCSD Personal Electronic Policy
You will be hearing more about classroom expectations regarding learning from your individual teachers during the first week of school.
MAA
Welcome back MAA students! I am Ms. Higgins and if you are new to MAA, like me, let’s connect - please wave or say hi when you see me! I can’t wait to get to know you. I hope you had some down time this summer to create, make, and recharge your imaginations. Please show me what you have been up to…I’ve always felt boredom was the mother of invention. As a professional artist and education leader I’m looking forward to working with MAA to support arts-integration and arts education. I look forward to your concerts, plays, performances, and shows. However, I get most excited about the artistic process and relationship building. I’m an assistant principal here at MHS, as well. Please reach out - I am always available to help. Your teachers/counselors/staff have been working hard to get things ready for you - and it shows. There is such a positive energy on campus. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this talented and vibrant community. It is going to be a really good year!
