Peek at the Week
Week of 2/19/2018
Shepherd Middle School in the News
I look forward to seeing the implementation of the SIOP strategies that you made and inputted into your lessons for the week of February 26th. I know that I owe the ELAR winners fly swatters for their team wins in PLC last week. You will receive them next week. Thank you Mrs. Dean for covering me on Tuesday afternoon.
I want to thank each and everyone of you for all that you do! To show our appreciation,The Leadership Team is providing lunch for you from Preacha's BBQ (aka Mr. Owens) on our workday. Enjoy! #bestcampus
On another note, I received an email from Mrs. Stayton regarding parent contact. Here is the gist of the email:
... In an effort to strengthen our relationship and support from our community and from our parents, it's best practice to have teachers contact parents anytime that a student is failing. Many of you already have systems for monitoring that this is occurring. Please remind your staff that it is their job to contact a parent anytime they have concerns regarding a student-especially if that student is struggling academically.
As your campus administrator, I am requesting that teachers turn in parent contact logs each grading period (9 week period) to show that you have contacted parents of students who are not successfully passing your class.

6 Brain Based Teaching Strategies for Low Stress Teaching
by Dr. Judy Willis, radteach.com
Although it is valuable for teachers to be familiar with neuroscientific research and pass relevant findings along to education stakeholders, it is crucial that educators use classroom strategies that reflect what we know about the brain and learning. So how can teachers create environments where anxiety is low while providing enough challenge and novelty for suitable brain stimulation?
