Reading - Historical Fiction, "The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963"
We began reading the The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963. As we make our way through the first couple chapters, we start to find out many interesting character traits about the characters so far in the story. This historical fiction book provides us with a view of what was happening here in the United States in the 1960's. We will continue to use the timeline that we created of the Civil Rights Movement events from the 1950s-1960s. Students were assigned their first packet for this book which is due this Thursday, January 28th.
Writing- Completing Informational Books
The Informational books deadline was extended in all writing classes. Our hope is to have all of them completed by the end of the week. All students have a rubric (guideline sheet of requirements) for this informational book. This rubric will be used to grade their assignment. Students have been working so hard on their writing and we are looking forward to sharing their final project!
Students also did their On Demand Writing this week. This is a writing session where students are expected to complete an informational writing prompt within one class period.
