Class Read Aloud: The Worst Class Field Trip Ever

Tackling Complexity: Nonfiction
- Students have worked to build nonfiction text sets to learn about a topic of interest. Ask your child what they are spending their time reading about in class.
- Encourage your child to read each evening. Ideally kids are reading 20 minutes each night at home.
Enduring Understandings
- Nonfiction is a powerful experience when I set goals, read to learn and share this new learning.
- Reading nonfiction can be hard. Because of this I will rely on new strategies, consider evidence and read closely.
- The way the author has structured their work will impact how I read the information.
Writing
Stay tuned for links to students non fiction writing pieces.
Feature Articles
Students are sharing topics they are already experts on and topics they have learned though their reading in feature articles.
Enduring Understandings
- Writers can write quickly to raise purposefully and swiftly to produce texts.
- When I find find gaps in my own knowledge I can research efficiently to fill these gaps.
Math
Division
Students are working across the division spectrum. Ask your child which of these levels most looks like what they are trying to learn. It would be beneficial for many students to work on math at home in the evenings or over the weekend. Both Front Row and Greg Tang Math Games offer great practice for students in thinking flexibly about numbers.
