Nominate a Volunteer of the Year
We are so grateful to have such dedicated and hard-working volunteers at KDE. Please take this opportunity to nominate a candidate for Volunteer of the Year by completing the form below. This person is someone who has worked consistently throughout the year, has worked on specific projects and events, and has impacted students, teachers, staff or other volunteers at our school. They may possess extraordinary qualities such as leadership, integrity, reliability, and attitude that set them apart from other volunteers. Thank you in advance for helping us celebrate our volunteers with this special recognition.
You may send the form to school with your child or drop if off in the front office. We will accept forms until Friday, March 9th.
CATCH Updates:
February CATCH Activity Update….Share Tables:
We are so excited about our Share Tables program. Hope Impacts is coming 2 times a week to pick up all the food donated that would have otherwise been thrown away. We are grateful that we can help feed the homeless in our area. Thanks to our 5th grade student council students who are picking up the food and moving it to the storage areas each day and for the parents who volunteered to help with the kickoff. We could not do this without you!! We are excited to continue this program through the end of the year!
March CATCH Activity….You were caught eating your vegetables!
The week of March 5-9, we will be passing out green tickets to students who eat their entire helping of vegetables during lunch. Students will be able to place their tickets in a drawing for prizes. A bin for tickets will be located in the gym. Prizes will be drawn on announcements during the week of March 19th.

Texas Independence Day Celebration - March 3rd and 4th
“Texas Independence Day Celebration”—presented by H-E-B—is an annual two-day living history celebration on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, 2018 on the 293-acre Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site to commemorate when 59 delegates bravely met in 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico. After all, there is no better place to celebrate Texas independence than on the very spot “Where Texas Became Texas.”
The free event features live music, food, traditional crafts, musket and cannon firings, Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, the Kids History Zone, “The Birth of a Republic” historical play, Brenham Children’s Chorus, and other commemorative programs. The new museum exhibit titled, “So Others Could Follow: Four Centuries of Maps That Define Texas” will open that weekend. Historical reenactors set up a bonafide 1836 Texas Army camp where visitors can wander freely to learn how the soldiers and their families lived then. Admission fees are waived for the site’s attractions (Independence Hall; Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm) for that weekend celebration. Admission to the grounds, on-site shuttles, and parking are also free. “Texas Independence Day Celebration” is coordinated by the Washington on the Brazos State Park Association. Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site is halfway between Houston and Austin at 23400 Park Road 12, Washington, TX, 77880. Arrival To School
We ask that students arrive to campus between 8:00 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Because there is no adult supervision before 8:00 a.m. students may not arrive before that time. The morning car rider drop off is one lane, please do not go around cars in front of you to drop off. If you need to come into the building during arrival please use the crosswalk where a staff member will stop traffic for you to safely cross with your child. Once you have dropped off your child please consider making a right hand turn as you exit the driveway to eliminate backup that is caused from cars having to wait to turn left. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work together to ensure the safety of our Dragons.
