Fallsington Students Hold Greek Gods and Goddesses Museum Day
Students in the fifth-grade gifted program at Fallsington Elementary School recently completed their Greek Mythology unit and shared what they learned with their classmates. The students, under the guidance of Mrs. Cohoons, created a museum with gallery-style exhibits that featured the Greek God or Goddess of their choice.
The students designed a poster detailing various facts about their Greek God or Goddess, along with an informational digital brochure for the museum guests. Students were also challenged to design and create a 3D model of their God of Goddesses' symbol out of repurposed materials such as paper towel rolls, cardboard, etc.
Students at Oxford Valley Elementary School will host a similar Greek museum next week.

Arjun Koneru - 5th Place
The team also won the 5th Place Sweepstakes Award. Over 30 schools from the tri-state area and over 432 competitors participated in Saturday’s tournament. Congratulations to all of the Pennsbury competitors and Coach Chris Berdnik!
Learning About Good Character at Penn Valley
Students at Penn Valley Elementary School explored the meaning of good character earlier this week as part of the United We Create Program through the New Jersey/Pennsylvania Chapter of Young Audiences Art for Learning.
A performance duo shared interactive stories about good character as told by Muslim grandmothers to their grandchildren. Students also got to hear and learn about various percussive instruments from each of the countries presented, including Pakistan, America, China, Mali, and Guyana. The presentation focused on sharing values that are similar across Muslim and non-Muslim countries as well as celebrating differences within cultures.
The United We Create program promotes cultural understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim students by creating entry points for schools to increase positive perceptions of Muslim identities and build connected communities. Penn Valley was one of several schools selected from the Pennsylvania-New Jersey area to participate in the program.
PHS Senior Places Second at Speech & Debate Tournament
Pennsbury High School Senior Amanda Qu won second place in the Informative Speaking category at the 2023 Sunvitational (Sunvite) Tournament. This tournament was held at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from January 5-9.
Amanda’s second-place finish for her piece entitled “The Root of the Matter” secures her a spot to compete at the prestigious National Individual Events Tournament of Champions to be held in Minnesota in May. In addition, she also advanced to the semi-finals in the Original Oratory category with her piece entitled “A Change of Heart.”
Sunvite, a national circuit tournament, was attended by over 96 schools from 22 states with over 641 competitors in 13 events. Congratulations to Amanda, Coach Scott Pollack, and Coach Chris Berdnik!
NOVA at Fallsington
Earlier today, the Network of Victim Assistance of Bucks County (NOVA) gave presentations to students at Fallsington Elementary School. In addition to learning about the valuable resources NOVA provides to Bucks County, kindergarten and first grade students learned about personal safety.
Personal safety includes the importance of body boundaries and safe and appropriate touches or requests. Students were encouraged to listen to their feelings, say "no" assertively in unsafe situations, and tell a trusted adult if something is ever wrong. Stuffed animal Chester the cat helped provide examples of signs when someone does and does not want to be touched, and that your body belongs to you and no one else.
NOVA is a proud Pennsbury Partner, and we are grateful for the valuable information they shared with our students. Visit NOVA's website to learn more and receive 24/7 assistance.
Oxford Valley Launches Parent Academy
Oxford Valley Elementary School hosted its first-ever OV Parent Academy Presentation this week. The presentation was led by Mrs. Cheryl Demusz, SPARK teacher and BELT Liaison, and Mrs. Heather Ryan, 1st-grade teacher, and PBIS-WISE team leader.
The goal of the OV Parent Academy is to connect parents and caregivers with available Pennsbury School District resources and combine them with the Oxford Valley W.I.S.E. program to demonstrate how skills can be utilized daily. (W.I.S.E. stands for Working together, Integrity, Safety, and Effort.)
Parents viewed the presentation How to Help Your Child Manage Emotions by Adam Saenz while their students worked on activities to identify their emotions.
"Bringing families together allows for constructive conversations that may be an additional benefit not available by watching the presentation at home," said Mrs. Minnigh, Oxford Valley principal.
Afterward, students and families reunited to work on an OV W.I.S.E. take-home craft and talked about emotions with their children.
